the staff is extremely kind, service is impeccable. We had to stay an extra three days due to cyclone Ditwah and floods in the area. Taru is the best place to be in isolation, we felt safe, and were taken very good care of, even though staff was busy looking after the property and reaching out to their families and the local community.

We had a great time, the hotel is so beautiful, the room is clean and well furbished. Food was great, the staff extremely nice and excellent in supporting us with the activities (we only did the safari).

The Backwaters lodge has everything that a naturelover is looking for. We really had the best time here in the middle of nowhere close to the Wilpattu National Park. The staff is really helpfull and very friendly, the rooms are right into nature but still have the luxury of having warm water and AC, great and an extended breakfast and dinner, I can go on and on. If you want to go on a safari at Wilpattu they can arrange a private jeep for you (which is a must do ofcourse). Further to fill in your time you can just hang out at the beautifull chillspots on the ponds or in the jungle or you could go kayaking with the kayaks available at the lodge. We wished we could have stayed longer to enjoy the lodge a little more.

The property was hidden in the jungle, which felt like the perfect escape and very picturesque. The eco lodge that we stayed in was perfect, as it had everything we needed and the outdoor shower was an incredible feature. The restaurant’s quality of food and service was exceptional. We got to try many Sri Lankan curries and I particularly loved taking part in the cooking class to learn more and the authentic flavours and traditional ways of cooking. I would definitely recommend it here!

Riswan and his family are so hospitable and proud to introduce you to wonderful Sri Lankan food, traditional life and wildlife. A very peaceful setting next to the river and rice paddy fields. Monkeys played in the tree beside my treehouse, and I could watch fishermen patiently catch fish from my balcony. Everyone is so friendly. I took a nice walk to a wetland area just 15 mins walk and saw birds, monkeys and a mongoose. Riswan will arrange everything for you - meals, transport, food, safari, its all very easy, just let him know what you want. A very special thanks to "Auntie" for her amazing coffee, so no worries if you crave caffeine, strong, black, sweet and delicious.

Sabina and her partner were such lovely hosts! They were very helpful with any request we had and they also cooked such a delicious food!!! The room was cozy and clean. Overall, we loved our experience at this place! I wish we can go back :)

Lovely well managed property on the beachfront. The service and hospitality of the staff is a massive highlight - a great bunch of people always happy to provide suggestions on what to do nearby and help with any request. Room is very large and clean with sea views. Also the chef is an excellent cook, had some of the nicest Sri Lankan meals here. The traditional breakfast is not to be missed! Highly recommend.

We had a wonderful time here. The room was very comfortable and clean, with a private pool and a beautiful river view. The bed was super cozy and the AC worked perfectly. Breakfast was excellent and really delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Highly recommend this place if you're visiting Wilpattu!
