These are the nicest people in Sri Lanka. They go above and beyond for you, always going that little extra mile for no reason other than being kind. The place is amazing with it’s own pool and a short walk to a beautiful beach you will have almost all to yourself. The food they cook is also great, we highly recommend the grilled prawn or their rice and curry. My daughter had her birthday while we stayed here and they made her feel very special. We highly recommend this place to everyone, it is simply perfect. We will definitely return.

After staying at many small Sri Lankan independent hotel / guest houses, from the very north to the south this is undoubtedly the best. One of 2 reviews from me as most other being average: This place is perfectly run, perfectly maintained, great pool and great breakfasts! The evening restaurant offers a mix of Italian and Sri Lankan dishes and after a few weeks traveling nothing beats a homemade Lasagna with a glass of Red! The Beach at 2 mins away is also nr perfect. Even with the rough seas experienced on this coast there is a northern corner that is calm enough to enjoy a good swim. Well done team and Gaby, you run a great establishment. I hope to return with many friends. T

Talalla Bay Beach far exceeded my expectations—something I don’t say often. This is the kind of place where shoes are unnecessary, and the beach is just steps away from your room. I was lucky to stay in a top-floor room with an unrivaled view of the bay, falling asleep to the soothing sound of waves each night. The hospitality here is exceptional, radiating the warmth and authenticity of a true Sri Lankan welcome. From the moment we arrived, the host and staff made us feel completely at home. The beach itself is breathtaking—perfect for a scenic run, with sun loungers thoughtfully provided under large umbrellas. While the sea isn’t the best for swimming, it’s still great for a refreshing dip or catching a few waves. Dining here was a highlight. Thomas, the chef, owner, and host, curated an incredible menu that left us impressed, and the service was flawless. Breakfasts were equally outstanding—among the best we’ve had in Sri Lanka. This property is a true find, offering incredible value for money and an atmosphere of tranquility and romance—perfect for couples seeking a quiet retreat. Without a doubt, one of our best stays in Sri Lanka!

Brand new villa. 3 amazing rooms with AC, ceiling fans, mosquito nets and big private bathrooms. Bunty is the most hospitable host in the world. I had the perfect stay at Mango House. It's a lovely house tucked behind the road into Talalla with a pretty garden & lovely seating area. The room was very comfortable with a large bathroom, nice bedding & a good mosquito net. It was especially nice to have a desk & chair. Breakfasts were delicious & an extra treat to watch the monkeys on their daily route to the roof tops. The family were so kind and accommodated my early rising for yoga with delicious juices : ) and I met some other lovely guests. They truly made us feel at home and very welcome. I was sorry I'd not discovered dinner was possible until my last night - my friend and I were served a delicious selection of curries. Such a pleasure to meet this lovely family & to share their home. They really cared that you had a good stay. The beach is just a short walk away & great shop nearby too. Great value and a warm welcome for the budget traveller.

The host is very friendly and will go out of his way to make your stay comfortable. The apartment has all you need and is in a very quiet location right next to Talalla beach. There is no air con but the bedrooms have a ceiling fan and standing fan so air con isn't needed. There is also a semi automatic washing machine if you need it. Overall great value for money and the host is very attentive.

I had the perfect stay at Mango House. It's a lovely house tucked behind the road into Talalla with a pretty garden & lovely seating area. Talalla beach is clean and not crowded like many on the...

Talalla beach is clean and not crowded like many on the South coast of Sri Lanka. Relax all day under the sun and take a dip in to the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Not really a surfing beach but the right hand end in front of Talalla Retreat is safe for swimming. Friendly locals and a small supermarket nearby. Ate at all the local restaurants - they were all excellent, especially Manju Cinnamon Hut.

Lovely quiet beach, great for walks but not good for...

Lovely quiet beach, great for walks but not good for swimming due to strong undertow. Nice to watch the waves crashing. If you like being away from the touristy area and enjoying the local culture Talalla is perfect. The only down side is there are not many places to eat but we found Old House Restaurant very good. It’s across from the beach and is run by a lovely family with good food and great service.

Perfect place for those seeking quiete beautifull beach and...

Perfect place for those seeking quiete beautifull beach and nature,not to crowded by turists and to many hotels. Still there are some great restaurants (with sunbeds). And we watched (and helped) the fishermann with fishing every day (they put a giant nett into the bay and pull it out)..

Talalla is a nice beach area, not close to much.

Talalla is a nice beach area, not close to much. There are tuk tuks available though. Last year the area was very quiet. This year there were two nights with loud music and most nights there are lots of barking dogs in the night.

A wonderful place to connect with nature and enjoy the ocean...

A wonderful place to connect with nature and enjoy the ocean. Deserted beaches with beautiful sand and calm ocean. There are cozy cafes and restaurants. Buddhist temples are very close. A great place for recovery, family or solo vacation.

Lovely quiet beach.

Lovely quiet beach. Eat at Tree Tops (worth the climb) and see monkeys during the day and fruit bats in the evening. Funny Banana dies fabulous good too - go for the village breakfast and the grilled prawns!
