Royal Rock is a quiet, peaceful haven handy for Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa. The food is excellent, service attentive but not intrusive and the ambience is most relaxing. The rooms all have a view of a lion rock and paddy filed which is home to varieties of birdlife. There is a comfortable pool to cool off in and rooms are cozy.

It’s not just a hotel, it’s an amazing experience, you are staying close to nature and you can meet a lot of animals on the territory of the hotel. The interior of the hotel is very stylish. Staff is friendly. Breakfast was good, nothing like very special but a lot of choices, coffee was good. A lot of options for dinner, you can get buffet for around 20 $ or you can have fancy romantic dining in a cave for approximately 400 $. Small details were well chosen in the hotel, the room is simple but I love it, there is relaxing music that you can turn on and also small candle that you can fire and put near jacuzzi with amazing view.

Perfect place!!! The cabanas are spacious and very clean with the best shower we had in Sri Lanka. The pool is clean and large and a bonus for hot hours, we were with children who really enjoyed it. The host, Gamani, is so kind, helpful and friendly. We couldn't ask for a better place than this.

I had a wonderful stay at this guesthouse. The owners are so kind and helpful. The children are adorable, and even the dog is super cute! The rooms are very comfortable and truly clean. The location is very close to the city center. Having breakfast in the garden was absolutely paradise. Thank you for everything!

Sigiriya is a must visit ancient ruins monument in Sri Lanka. It is a nice experience to observe the sunrise from the top of the rock. The climb takes about 30-40 minutes unless one stops by to explore the water fountains, structures and other remnants of the location. Entrance to the rock is through the lion structure and on the top of the rock Sigiri frescos and the mirror wall can be observed. These are not allowed to be photographed. Applying sun screen can be a good idea and it would be better to take precautions for being sweaty. Maintaining silence while climbing can be important as there are Giant Honey Bees in the surrounding. Bathroom facilities on top of the rock however are very scarce.

I didn’t come to Sigiriya to explore the town itself, but...

I didn’t come to Sigiriya to explore the town itself, but purely for the iconic Sigiriya Rock—and it was absolutely worth it. The experience was incredible, with stunning views from the top. My friends and I climbed up for sunrise, which I highly recommend as the best time to go. Just be prepared: there are a lot of stairs—some carved directly into the rock, others metal and uneven. We visited in November just after the monsoon, so it was warm and the climb had us sweating buckets. If you plan on taking those perfect social-media photos, bring a spare T-shirt… or do what I did and let AI handle the magic! Although the ascent was tough and left us literally out of breath, the moment we reached the top made it all worth it. The views were truly breathtaking—quite fitting, since the climb already took my breath away.

Lions rock is great, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Lions rock is great, we thoroughly enjoyed it. We stayed for two nights in the end as we got to sigiriya late. This meant we ate dinner one night at the little hut which wass great, climbed the rock, then moved on to the habarana which was also interesting to wander and eat.

The weather is very calm.

The weather is very calm. Recommended time to start climb is 5.45 AM. So worthy to watch the surroundings from top of the Sigiriya. You can learn a lot about Sigiriya. You can get a guide if you want from the entrance.

I’ll never forget the day we spent climbing Sigiriya.

I’ll never forget the day we spent climbing Sigiriya. And no wonder such a wonderful World Heritage Site kept popping up everywhere: Test it against the massive old fortress, the gorgeous frescoes, and images taken of landscapes from the summit, and there you’ll pick one of Sri Lanka’s greatest treasures. Not an easy or casual climb but certainly one that throws panoramic views so very far worth it and lucid into history at every step. Water gardens at the bottom quite worth a visit. One has to get there at dawn to avoid numerous tourists and scorching sun. Thus, in general, Sigiriya is a combination of artistic creation, engineering work of antiquity, and a miracle of nature, and a must-see site in Sri Lanka.

There is so much more to do in this area than I realised.

There is so much more to do in this area than I realised. I will definitely come back. The area is beautiful and we were sad to leave. We dud Pidurangala Rock which was fun, more of an adventurous climb than Lions Rock. It has incredible views of Lions Rock. We also did a safari in Minneriya National Park. The park was beautiful and we saw so many elephants plus lots of varieties of birds, golden jackals, monkees, mongoose, the grizzled giant squirrel, buffalo and jungle foul. We also went to Dambula Temple Caves which is very spiritual and Luckgrove Spice Gardens which was an incredible experience. Highly recommend this area.

Can be easily reached to Lion Rock, Polonnaruwa & Dambulla. The room was comfortable, and I'm a big fan of nature; they are very beautiful altogether. The food was delicious and the hotel was very kind to pack us some snacks when we were checking out. The staff was also kind and helpful with anything, with perfect English, so there were no miscommunication issues. Lovely pool & bar ................!!! Sigiriya is a beautiful historic city with lots of amazing architecture and man-made Tanks for cultivation.

Amazing people that welcome you into their home stay, making it a very homey place. The food, both breakfast and dinner, was absolutely incredible and best we had throughout our holiday in Sri Lanka. Definitely recommend the curry !! They even organized a last minute elephant safari and trip to Dambulla. The room was very clean with a stunning view from the top. It offers incredible price value for the experience that you get. Would definitely recommend anyone staying in Sigiriya.

We’ve been traveling through Sri Lanka and have stayed in a couple places already and this is the best place we stayed in! Hands down. Can’t recommend it more. From the wattsapp communication to the best breakfasts we have had in Sri Lanka, to the beautiful trees that surround you on your patio. Spotlessly clean and so professional. Thusitha is an incredible host!! You get to experience a local stay but with resort hotel quality. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Sigiriya.

The best hotel I have ever stayed at. The rooms and the setting itself is just BEAUTIFUL. The bed was extremely comfortable and the linen was very high end. The staff are so kind and friendly, so attentive. The food was delicious. I could go on and on but honestly, just fabulous. Don't book anywhere else in sigiriya.
