Great view. Good surf for intermediate/ beginner. Clean beach about 1 km long. Not as touristy as some beaches. Ate the Sri Lankan breakfast and dinner and the curries were some of the best we have had. Generous servings too. Our room was large and the bed comfortable. Sitting on the balcony in the comfortable chairs was lovely. Would book again.

I stayed at Royal Villa Polhena as a solo female traveler from Russia and had a wonderful experience. The villa is clean, quiet, and just a few minutes’ walk from Polhena Beach, with friendly and helpful hosts who made me feel completely safe. It’s close to the highway and bus stop, and Madiha Beach and The Doctor's House are within walking distance. I would highly recommend this villa to solo travelers excellent value for money ! 🙌🙌

We really loved our stay in Ferola. Everything was new, super clean and comfortable. The staff was really attentive, friendly and polite. The swimming pool and lounge area are big and not too crowded. The pool is clean. The food was great as well. It’s located in a rather quiet area, but there are still many restaurants and bars nearby. I would recommend renting a scooter for easy access to different beaches on both sides of the coastline. A bigger shopping street is about 10 minutes away on foot. I would definitely recommend it for a relaxing and stress-free stay.

I had a wonderful time at Gypsea’. The staff were lovely and the breakfast was so good, perfect way to start the day. The location was close to the beach and walking distance to many other cafes and restaurants. It was the perfect place to relax for a week. I will definitely be back.

The place is brand new! Rooms are big, quiet at night and comfortable. The shower was really big and with a lot of pressure :-) This homestay is also ideally located next to Madiha surf spot (walking distance) and plenty of cafés and restaurants. The Sri Lankan family running this place has been very welcoming and making our 5-night stay very pleasant! The last day we could also benefit from late checkout before our drive back to the airport which helped to make the end of our trip in Sri Lanka a great one!

We had the most incredible time at Shades, what a treat it was! It’s tucked away in a quiet spot amongst all the incredible nature. I’ve seen so much wild life during my stay there is no need to go for a safari tour. Waking up in the morning to the sounds of the jungle, starting my day with a swim in a beautiful huge pool and a delicious breakfast by the amazing team. Hospitality is outstanding, your every need is anticipated! Food was incredible, great variety and very balanced flavours. Room was so comfortable, I had the best sleep and a phenomenal view. Location was also great, all the beaches are so easily accessible and I enjoyed being away from all the hassle and busyness of the town, returning to this peaceful sanctuary after exploring around. Can’t wait to be back, thank you team!

Matara isn't a big town so it is relatively quick to get from A to B. The beach is beautiful. But there aren't that many restaurants in in the town. The Matara Rest House near the fort had good food and drinks and is one of the most worth it dining options nearby. Lemon is also a good option. There are restaurants closer to the touristy spots but those are on the pricier side. snorkeling with turtles is popular in Matara.

Matara, was a good place for me.I stayed at La Polena,for 12 nights.The breakfast was excellent and the lady that made it changed the sheets and cleaned my room twice.I do think that they could give visitors a bottle of water daily.Also a jug to make a cup of tea in each room.Very little money is spend on maintaining the place.Also a sign with numbers for hiring Tuk-Tuk drivers would help.The manager is nice ,but a little slow in offering advice. Island rsetuarant past the Doctors had teh best food.I also needed more veg.So bought carrots,tomatoes and cucumber for myself.Also egg,roll in town. Restaurants at the beach are a rip off.10% added for tax.This is nonsense.Tuk driver from the Railway station to hotel.600 rup The one Hotel to Trainstation 800 the train from Matara.4 -5 hours 600rph.?

Matara is a beautiful coastal town in southern Sri Lanka, full of charm and local culture. The beaches are clean and peaceful—perfect for swimming, surfing, or just relaxing. I enjoyed exploring the historic Matara Fort and visiting nearby places like Polhena Beach and Parey Dewa Temple. The local food is delicious, and the people are warm and welcoming. It's a great place to experience authentic southern Sri Lankan life with a mix of nature, history, and the sea.

Polhena

Polhena If you are looking for a tourist only beach, this isn't it. Mostly locals and that's why it was so lovely. Very small beach with no waves. A dead reef but some fish and turtles. Local people there were really kind. Which is what made this place special. The area itself was a bit of a tourist trap but the beach was actually was a small and cute meeting point.

Matare is part of a chain of cities along the southernmost coast of Sri Lanka. It has beaches for expert surfers as well as beginners and those who just want to be by the beach. The beaches along the coast are all sparkling translucent and enticing. Find hotels along the shore because the traffic on the roads is dense and sometimes unpleasant to westerners the beaches and the kindness of the population more than make up for it.

Nice place, but you have to make an effort to explore, which is nice. Not the commercial fully packaged commercial tourist deal. Good quirky options. Has quite a lot of Sri Lanka's history, forts, but courts, and old paved streets, as I said, a great if you make a little effort to explore. The Duchman's Street is a great beachside restaurant!

The most amazing stay in Sri Lanka. Rooms are clean, bright and modern with a neat design. Location is a bit further from city centre so you can enjoy calm and relaxing evenings , but close by are all the restaurants,shops and beaches you need. Breakfast is super good- fresh and filling. Hosts are the best people you will meet in Sri Lanka. They’re gonna be there for everything you need, at any time. (Even at night time getting my wife flowers, for Valentines day) Best stay in Sri Lanka by far. 10/10

Absolutely beautiful place. The rooms are luxurious, it’s modern, clean and well equipped with everything you need. The beds are super comfortable. The housekeeper was a very friendly lady and the owner is helpful and responsive. The place is so peaceful and in a quiet part of town, but only 5 minutes walk to the beach. It is probably the nicest place I have stayed in Sri Lanka. For the price it is an excellent deal and I highly recommend it anyone, you won’t regret staying here.

Buildings and interiors are very beautifully designed. The manager is very nice. The breakfast is fantastic and the cleaning of the rooms is spotless. After a minute's walk, you are at Polhena beach, where you can see many turtles when you snorkel in the clear calm water. Hotellets pool är ren och svalkande.

Beachfront hotel with two small private beaches with sunbeds. Beautiful garden with palm trees where they serve breakfast. In the back yard there is a nice pool area with good size pool. From Polhena beach it is 10 minutes walk distance. Very polite and useful staff. Good breakfast.
