Our stay at Mallara Rest Safari was truly incredible! If you're a nature lover, this place is an absolute must-visit. Babi and his staff are exceptionally hospitable, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The accommodation itself is beautifully designed, blending perfectly with its surroundings. Right next to the property, we saw various animals passing by—during the day, water buffaloes and stunning birds, and at night, even elephants! The food was absolutely delicious, adding to the overall experience. Staying in the treehouse was magical—it allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in nature, listening to the soothing sounds of wildlife at night, which felt almost meditative. Babi also took us to explore different local spots, showing us breathtaking views and beautiful scenery that we wouldn't have found on our own. We also arranged a safari nearby, exploring the nearby Yala Block 5 and 6, where we were lucky enough to see leopards, elephants, and a variety of other animals. Overall, our experience was nothing short of amazing. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique and unforgettable nature getaway!

Absolutely gorgeous hotel, the staff is amazing, Amal is a great cook and a lovely human being who even took us to the hospital when we needed. I recommend the lake fish and the vegetable omelet in the morning! And please don’t miss the night boat tour, it’s a gem

The staff at Hotel River Front is 100% the reason you should stay here! They arranged our transport from Mirissa, and to Ella. Booked our safari and sent us with a packed breakfast. We ate dinner at the restaurant at the hotel and it was so good and affordable too! Their safari driver was great, we saw 2 bears and 2 leopards along with elephants and everything else we'd hoped to see. This is a perfect place to stay to safari in Yala.

We had such a beautiful stay at My Resort Yala. From the moment we arrived we felt welcome and cared for - the staff really want to make sure you have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. This is evident in the facilities - air con, good fans, filtered water in the room, mosquito nets (even though there weren’t many mosquitos), a fridge, a hair dryer, adapters to suit every country’s appliances. My favourite - bicycles. This allowed us to ride around town - a thoroughly enjoyable way to see the place. We did an afternoon safari and managed to see a sloth bear! Along with so many other animals - many elephants, crocodiles, deer, bird species, mongoose, jackals, goannas (probably forgetting a lot here). The leopard eluded us. My husband and I have been on safari in Africa so we thought maybe we’d be underwhelmed - but it was awesome. The pool was great for my kids. The temperature was just right. Breakfast was tasty and very generous, and the place has such a peaceful outlook over the rice fields. All of this for such good value. Thank you to all the staff for making this such a lovely stay.

Excellent, exceptional care, near beautiful lake, where you can watch the birds, owner is very helpful, they also cook there. Short walk to town, small shop on the corner. Internet working well. They book you Safari tour so you do not have to worry about anything. Nice open space common area.

Word cannot express how grateful we are to Nalin and Isharni for welcoming us into their home during Sinhalese New Year. Staying at Black Panther Yala was the absolute highlight of our two weeks in Sri Lanka. It was such a special weekend where we learnt/ate traditional food (e.g. oil cake), participated in the rituals and traditions and met the neighbours and relatives. The room was comfortable and the food delicious. Dinner included is such a rare treat. The location is lovely, set next to the wetlands. You can borrow bike and ride around the area. We did a safari through a driver that our host recommended and it was amazing. I would highly recommend Black Panther to anyone!

We had an overall amazing experience here. The family who owns this place offers service beyond exceptional to make sure everything is okay. The food is exceptionally good. We had one of the best Sri Lankan curries I have had in my entire stay here. The room is large, spacious and the bed is comfortable. Everything is very clean and the A/C works really well. The mother of the family even sewed up one of my blouses for free. He helped us with our bus ride to Ella and stayed with us for an hour to make sure we got on the right bus.

If I return to Yala, I will definitely stay here again. Mithi is the best host in the world—she’s like a mom. She welcomed us with a refreshing passion fruit juice. She prepared dinner for us, and it was a fresh, homemade meal. We went on safari, and she packed a typical yet practical breakfast for us to take along. Her thoughtfulness made my stay truly special. She’s a warm and charismatic person. The place is beautiful, in excellent condition, right by the river, surrounded by lush vegetation that gives it a jungle-like atmosphere. It was very comfortable, and Mithi was attentive to all our needs. My trip through Sri Lanka has been amazing, but staying at this hotel was the cherry on top.

Our stay at the Bundala Flamingo Cottages was one of the highlights of our Sri Lankan trip. The hosts truly make you feel like home -- they are genuinely friendly, caring and helpful. We were greeted with big smiles and a welcome drink (fresh juice). The view from our room was facing Bundala National Park, meaning we could see all sorts of different birds right from our balcony. We even got a glimpse of 3 elephants from the distance. Both the dinner and breakfast were very tasty home-cooked Sri Lankan meals. The highlight of our stay was the Bundala National park safari, which was arranged by the hosts. The national park was truly scenic, plus the low number of tourists (compared to Yala) makes it even more special. We definitely recommend this place if you are type of person that enjoys nature and wildlife.
