We came to Kataragama for 2 days of a full day safari tour. The place is simple, clean and ideal for that 2 -3 nights stay close to the Yala National Park.. There is no hot water, but the weather was so hot that we won't need that.

The staff were very helpful & always happy to fullfill our needs and requests.Malintha was very welcoming & always made sure we were comfortable & happy. Nilmini, Pradeep & the rest of the staff always made us feel at home. The food was delicious, especially the buffet breakfast. Pradeep made special Sri lankan breakfast for us. The service was exceptional & 5 star rating. Credit to Malintha for managing the hotel to the standard it is providing it's guests. I'll recommend Kynrock hotel to anyone who wants a 5 star experience down south. A beautiful & memorable stay for my family. Will go back next time without a doubt.

I had the pleasure of staying at Farm Villa Resort in Katharagama for two nights, and it was a wonderful and memorable experience from start to finish! 🌿 From the moment we arrived, the welcome was warm and heartfelt. The staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist with anything. Special mention to the front office team – truly a gem in hospitality! The room was spacious, the bathroom was very big, and the overall comfort . The clean and inviting swimming pool was perfect for cooling off and relaxing in the serene atmosphere. What makes Farm Villa Resort truly special is its beautiful location surrounded by nature. The resort is set amidst lush paddy fields, and there's a charming little lake flowing through the property, creating a peaceful, scenic environment ideal for rest and reflection. I enjoyed walking through the paddy fields, listening to the birds in the mornings, and even got to pick fresh fruits from the garden! 🍌🌾 It's also conveniently located – just a short walk to the sacred Kirivehera and Katharagama Dewalaya, making it perfect for both pilgrims and nature lovers.One of the biggest highlights was the full-day Yala Safari arranged by the hotel – an absolutely amazing adventure! 🐘🦁 We saw incredible wildlife, and everything was perfectly organized with a knowledgeable guide.The food was another standout. The traditional Sri Lankan dinner was flavorful and authentic, clearly made with care and love. The breakfast offered plenty of variety, and every meal was beautifully presented. The dining team was attentive and courteous, adding to the overall great experience.In summary, Farm Villa Resort offers far more than just a place to stay – it's a place to connect with nature, enjoy delicious food, and experience genuine Sri Lankan hospitality. The room was clean and well-equipped. This is a great location if you want to start your safari adventure from here. The city center is also close and easy to reach. The hosts were very kind; they showed us around the neighborhood and we had great conversations. They were helpful with everything, telling us what was worth seeing in the area. We’re really glad we chose the Mailagama Cinnamon Residence for our stay in Kataragama. The staff treated us with great respect and warm hospitality. We thoroughly enjoyed the hoppers dinner with its absolutely delicious curries. We must also mention that the curd and honey were the best we’ve ever had.

It is a holy place visited by Buddhists and Hindus alike. Some Muslims also visit a mosque located in the sacred area. Buddhist usually visit the Kiri Vehera area first and then come to the Devale premises. There are circular roads to facilitate that sequence. Otherwise, one can walk to the Devale premises and then proceed to the Kiri Vehera premises. There are lot of boutiques selling various items including offerings for Devale. They are located in the town area. After that one has to cross a small bridge over the Menik River to enter the sacred area. Over the years both sides of the river have been re-organized for a better sequential experience.

Kataragama itself is a temple town and that’s pretty much it. Other than that it’s a jumping off point for safari in yala and kumana. One day is more than enough for cultural/religious aspects. The Perahara (pageant) in July is fantastic. Be warned that it may not start till midnight and may need pre booked tickets. Also watch out for pickpockets in crowded areas around this time. The country side and the rural life as well as the wildlife is fantastic and authentic. Quite hot and sunny year round but dec to feb is more comfortable.

I thought it was a different place to go for Safari.

I thought it was a different place to go for Safari. But, almost all vehicles come from Tissa for Safari pickup so it doesn't really matter if you book a room in Tissa or Katharagama for the Safari.

Even though it is a religious hub that connects all the religions to a one place, I enjoyed the YALA Safari very much. Spotted all most all the animals from water birds to hundreds of peacocks, from mongoose to leopard and elephants.

Now Kataragama is to easy to reach through Southern Expressway. It's just some 30km+ from Mattala Exit., Kiriwehera, Kataragama Devalaya, Sella Kataragama and Wedasiti Kanda are main religious' attraction points. We had our dinner from Hotel sunflower and Lunch @ P&S Kataragama

The accomodation is like a hotel in the jungle! The best kind of glamping you could ask for. Dinner is brought to your room (whilst the restaurant is under construction) and was some of the tastiest food we’ve had. The hosts will organise a safari tour for you. We picked the full day and breakfast and lunch was catered for us - more than enough food! The accomodation is on the border of Yala National Park and it was amazing to wake up to monkeys in the trees and buffalo in the garden. Highly reccomended a stay here.

Really lovely place to stay, the staff were friendly too. The rooms were very cosy, really nice beds and bedding. Bathroom was simple enough but very clean and separate shower to main bathroom. We booked our Safari though the hotel only 5 days before we arrived and it was a private tour.
