This place is a gem. The moment you enter, you feel immediately relaxed and you learn the family history of this place. The pool is relaxing, and the dinner we ordered each night was easy and traditional Sri Lankan food. Our visit to Jaffna has been magical, and we are so thrilled that we chose to stay here. The beds are comfortable, and the rooms are private and quiet. This is our first trip to Sri Lanka, but it won't be our last, and we will definitely be back.

Breakfast was good and the dinning area is very spacious. We stayed in 2- two bed room suite and we got one upgrade with a kitchenette free of charge. Very suitable for families with small children. Staff was very courteous and nice. Very close to Nallur temple. Nice Eating places like Lavine, Dinesh Bakery, Ammachi restaurant. J|afna town is easily accessible by Tuk Tuk.

The place is very beautiful and in a calm setting. Beautiful big room with view of the pool. Very clean and luxurious bathroom. Really felt like a treat to be here. And on too of that the staff was extremely kind and friendly, they went above and beyond to care for my needs and safety. Food was also very traditional and tasty.

All staff were very friendly, helpful, warm, and accommodating—from the reception to the room boy to the restaurant. Our room was very spacious, comfortable, and clean. Our room boy, A. Sajanthan, was the best we've ever had. He anticipated our every need. The food was the highlight for us. We had a traditional Jaffna-style buffet as well as international dishes that we could order à la carte. No matter what we ordered, everything was delicious. Many thanks to the kitchen team. The service staff in the restaurant and bar were also very friendly. The staff always try to please you. No matter how busy and stressful the restaurant was, they always served us with a smile and never lost their composure. Our sincere thanks go to the catering staff: Pavithira, Sasiram, Kayana, Subaram, Elamaram, Kajeepan, and Rusanth. And finally, a special thank you to the managers Gobi and Sam, who were incredibly kind and made sure everything was perfect. We will definitely return to North Gate next year. Thank you again for everything.

We stayed is a large, cool and beautifully clean room. Bed comfortable and sheets soft. Great to come back to a big cool shower after the hot walks aground Jaffna. Easy to find and well located. Neighbour has a Tuk Tuk so lifts can be arranged or PickMe works well.

A slightly different experience to rest of the island but a positive one. However it was more dirty than other large towns and cities, rubbish is everywhere! The Dutch fort is the best experience, a place worth visiting. Driving down to the islands is a nice experience and much calmer atmosphere from main Jaffna city. The views of the ocean is great but the coastline is filled with plastic bottles, general refuse and redundant fishing gear. I would not want to wonder around barefoot but this applies to most of the srilankan cost line that I have visited... sadly..

We enjoyed visiting the Nallur temple, fish market and fishing village and especially the excursions around the Jaffna peninsula and the nearby islands. August is a great month to be in Jaffna, as there are temple festivals all around, with music and rituals. For a nice cold beer and some snacks, the Machang bar / restaurant - near the modern North Gate Hotel - is highly recommended. For a mid-morning snack, the old-fashioned Malayan café near the busy market is a great place where time seems to have stood still. Food is served on fresh banana leaves - which are thrown away in the 'banana leaf throwing station'. For a decent evening meal, head to the Valampuri restaurant - in the hotel of the same name. You'll be surrounded by lots of Sri Lankan family groups.

"Jaffna is a truly impressive city—very clean, peaceful, and notably low on traffic. We had a wonderful stay at the North Gate Hotel, situated right next to the railway station. What surprised and delighted us most was the spotless condition of the Jaffna Railway Station. In our experience, railway areas are typically the dirtiest, but the excellent maintenance here created a lovely and quiet environment right outside our hotel. Our sincere thanks to the Railway Master for setting such a high standard! We absolutely loved our visit and look forward to returning."

Jaffna is still an unspoiled and hidden gem of a city.

Jaffna is still an unspoiled and hidden gem of a city. People are super friendly and the city is bustling and easy to navigate. There is a beech just outside the city center which is quiet and beautiful. It was very hot when we visited in july but we did not mind this at all.

Jaffna is lovely city and it’s a shame we didn’t stay longer. It has changed a lot since our last visit 7 years ago with a lot more development but a shame so many franchises have opened up. It has a nice mix of tourist attractions and yet maintains its charm as a local area. The Rio ice cream is the best! I wish we had more time to enjoy local cuisine.
