Elephant Fence was fantastic! We highly recommend staying here. We got in late off a train from Colombo (~8:00pm) and the owners welcomed us and served us dinner at Chill & Grill (their adjoining restaurant). The room was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed and more (wifi, mini fridge and aircon). The accommodation is quiet and surrounded by nature. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner here - it was so yum! We did a cooking class with the owners and would highly recommend you do the same!

I stayed at Woodland Sanctuary during my recent trip to the Cultural Triangle, and it was truly one of the most peaceful and rejuvenating experiences I’ve had in Sri Lanka. Nestled in the heart of nature, the hotel offers a tranquil escape surrounded by lush greenery and birdsong. The rooms are beautifully designed with a natural wooden theme, giving a cozy yet modern feel. Everything was exceptionally clean and well-maintained. What really stood out was the hospitality — the owners were incredibly warm and helpful, making sure every detail was taken care of. I also had the chance to join a traditional Sri Lankan cooking session hosted by the owner’s mother — such a memorable and delicious experience! Location-wise, it’s perfect. It’s close to Sigiriya, Dambulla Cave Temple, and the safari parks, but tucked away enough to feel like a proper retreat. Highly recommend this place for couples, families, or even solo travelers looking to relax and reconnect with nature

I had a great stay here right on the edge of the National Park. The room was large and exceptionally clean and my lovely host gave me a in depth tour of the grounds explaining the uses and medicinal properties of all the plants there. The staff also made me meals with produce from the garden and catered for my Western tastes with well prepared meals. On learning of a problem with my foot I also received a massage using the products of the garden. I can’t recommend this place highly enough Greg The professor

We spent 2 weeks traveling around Sri Lanka and this was our favorite place to stay. It was an incredible room with high ceilings, AC, ceiling fan, clean bathroom, great location, amazing food, and an amazing host. We were able to do our laundry there as well. The location was perfect for safaris as well as Sigiriya Rock and Dambulla. Did I mention how great the food was? Don't hesitate to stay here. It's a special place.

It is therefore very accessible to other important cities, such as Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee, Dambulla, Anuradhapura, Sigiriya, etc. As well as to the natural parks, which are located nearby. Public transport is perfectly provided. The town has the necessary facilities such as shops, a bank, a post office, a doctor, etc. The beautiful surrounding nature, and easily accessible lakes, are also an advantage.

Good location to visit the National parks where Elephants roam. Take a short drive to Ritigala and be amazed at the heritage site of a millenia old large forest monastery. Dine at the Ran Rasa restaurant for one of the best Chicken Koththus you will taste..

Beautiful jungle surrounds. Lots of activities. Safari doesn't tell you about all the extra costs involved. Entry fee big. Tip for animal spotter. The Harabana lake cruise is brilliant. No motor just a gentle paddle, allowing you get up close to wildlife

There are loads to do in Habarana.

There are loads to do in Habarana. Nice places to eat and drink. One unexpected pleasure was the village safari. You go for a ride on a old tractor, then a lovely boat ride across the lake. You are then shown the old traditional way of preparing and make food. Also shown other local crafts.

Everything was fantastic and as described here. The room was spacious and pristine, with a nice view into nature, including peacocks walking around. The owner was really helpful at all times, gave us nice recommendations for the surrounding area and helped us with the buses for our day trips as well as when continuing our journey. The location of the place was nice as well, in a calm area but still in walking distance to the center of Habarana. All in all, I'd definitely recommend staying here!

All was excellent . We loved the family who looked after us while we stayed. They cooked for us every evening with the best food we have eaten while in Sri Lanka ! Delicious! The breakfasts too were delicious with lots of variety! The room was spacious and had great aircon and was extremely clean. The family organised tuk tuk drivers and safari jeeps too. The lodge is a little out of town but so quiet away from the noise of Habarana, we were so happy there.

Ruwan and his family/team are great hosts. They organise all you need and more if you have issues (like us with incovenient cash notes, shuttle from the train station, etc.). Would always recommend staying in Visu Villa hotel if one is in the region of Habarana. The food is great as well and always fresh made. The tours are fantastic as well.
