FAQs about hotels in Phnom Penh

Cambodia's Colourful Capital

Cambodia has successfully dusted itself off from the ravages of war with its colourful capital of Phnom Penh rising from the ashes and sparkling once more. This fascinating city, on the banks of the Mekong River, features exotic markets, cultural jewels and is home to some of the friendliest people on earth.

A visit to the National Museum captures a slice of Cambodia’s ancient Khmer history and art. A different and more recent history suffocates and overwhelms visitors to Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, the former prison of the Khmer Rouge, and The Killing Fields are a short drive from the capital.

The Royal Palace is a striking centrepiece in the centre of Phnom Penh, and is home to the Emerald Buddha and Silver Pagoda. Not far away is the Cambodian Independence Monument that celebrates Cambodia’s sovereignty.

You can satisfy your hunger pains with delicious French-Indochina-inspired meals at various street stalls or classy restaurants. The riverside area has the Art Deco Central Market for a great bargain and there are a variety of bars, especially near Sisowath Quay.

Take time to walk around the French colonial streets with its mix of slow-moving monks and speedy motorbikes. Booking.com has many hotels located in Daun Penh and Chamkar Mon districts, amongst others.

As a city, Phnom Penh is on the ugly side.

As a city, Phnom Penh is on the ugly side. Very heavily polluted, extremely dirty, traffic chaos all over the place, extremely hard to navigate, no respect for pedestrians. On the flip side, locals very friendly & welcoming, and the few sights that are in Phnom Penh are definitely worth visiting (Genocide Museum, Killing Fields, Royal Palace, National Museum).

The palace is well worth visiting.

The palace is well worth visiting. I would also like to recommend to book a tour with Vana travel. We had a great day by exploring the country site by bicycle. The tour guide was really helpful and knew a lot of the places we visited. You get a nice experience to get to know Cambodia.

The local government has done a lot to make this more family friendly. Lots of activities now. Lots to see and do. The closing of Sisowath on Saturday nights is a stroke of genius. Makes the city so much more family friendly.

A big sprawling city so not particularly walkable but Tuk Tuks are plentiful. I want to come back and see some more. The gaol and killing fields made me cry but so worthwhile to learn about this dreadful part of Cambodian history.

Just enjoy yourself. One thing I haven't done but heard of is a trip to a nearby military base where you can fire real guns - a plethora of them, apparently! Awesoome, but I don't know the details

The breakfast was one of the most amazing breakfast we had in Cambodia. The food was delicious and every day, the chef proposes different dishes. Even the coffee was exquisite. The personnel are very kind and care about the quality of your stay in their hotel. The hotel is also well located which enabled us to visit the main attractions of the city by walk. We come twice time in this hotel during our trip in Cambodia. We definitely recommend this hotel!

This was the 3rd time I have stayed at Sun & Moon, as an airline employee, and I stay above average in hotels, so I want this hotel to deliver in most ways. Clean, rooftop pool with great views of the city and river. Warm welcoming staff who always do everything to make you have a comfortable stay. I will return to Phnom Penh, and without a doubt I will choose to stay here next time. all the best from a satisfied Norwegian customer
