The hotel is 2 minute walk from Takayama JR Station and Takayama Bus terminal, so you can use it as a base to travel to Shirakawago, Toyama or Kamikochi. Most attractions in Takayama are 10-15 minute walk from the hotel. Spacious room, helpful and friendly staff, a variety of free drinks in the fridge, well-equipped kitchen, a dining table, great breakfast. I stayed in 4 hotels during this trip in Japan, and this is the best one!

The room was clean and spaced. It was nice we could do laundry and use the kitchen for coffee and light meals. The location wasn't so good, we drove every day to Takayama (~40 min) since there is not much to do in this area.

The beds were comfortable and clean. The check-in (small tour, tea, explanation of the temple, 'introducing' selves for a safe stay, etc) was interesting and relaxing. The information about the history of the temple was very interesting. There were many different options for experiences unique to a temple (copying sutras, joining morning meditation, etc).

Close to the train and bus stations, our room had large luxurious beds, a very large bath with views of the town and generally one of the largest hotel rooms we stayed in during our Japan holiday. We booked "Family Room with Private Bathroom". Staff were helpful and provided good recommendations for restaurants upon request.

Takayama is a beautiful small city, very walkable with a chill retro vibe. It’s a great base for day trips to kamikochi, shin hotaka ropeway and shirakawa-go! We underestimated how much time we needed for the day trips and exploring Takayama city properly. We stayed for two days and wished we could’ve had three or four instead.

Hida Takayama is a charming city.

Hida Takayama is a charming city. With lots of historic and cultural sightseeing spots, delicious local cuisine and tasty Japanese small sweets, it offers visitors so many fantastic choices to relax. In the day time, visitors can start their day with a special breakfast at the morning market. Then take a tour bus and let it show you around to take a look at the small city or just take a walk along the well-preserved ancient streets. No matter what season it is, this small place always attracts a great number of travelers to visit it every year.

The town is small, without any striking landmarks, but many old houses have been preserved. The town's residents have long been engaged in carpentry. There are good porcelain shops. The surrounding area is full of fascinating sights, including the village of Shirakawago and the mountains with their hot springs. I recommend eating in Suzuya - It's popular, so you need to arrive a few minutes before they open. I recommend drinking morning coffee in Sanu coffee stand. There is truly good European coffee here

We chose Takayama as a stopover on the way to Hirayu Onsen, so it was a very brief stay. I would love to stay longer as while we were on a short walk around I saw a lot of wood carving workshops, which I'd love to explore

It is a lovely location.

It is a lovely location. It has a looped walk that shows multiple shrines and the old castle, watch out for the bears. There is an old street with wooden houses, it is a bit of a tourist trap and the shops are over priced but it is worth seeing. The museum is interesting and we met a lovely old man that guided us around. The street market was interesting.

Great visits possible in this area - the Ropeway (cable car)...

Great visits possible in this area - the Ropeway (cable car) up into the alps, the Onsen, Hida Village was superb and had loads of additional activities for children, and Takayama was a complete surprise with is bijou shops in the beautiful old quarter. There seemed to be plenty more to do including museums etc.

The staff was amazing, very attentive and always ready to help you in any way they can. The historical building this ryokan is in, is beautiful, clean and well maintained, it has all the amenities you would need to have a great stay. The fact that the parking, onsen and kimono experience are included in the price, makes the price very fair. We will come back in the future to enjoy our care free stay at this beautiful hotel.

one of our favourite stays during our month in Japan with a family of 5. Everyone had a real and comfortable bed (often we have to share with a kid or someone sleeps on a sofa), it was light and clean. Nice bathroom and I love having a washing machine in the room. Close to the station and the old town was 10-15 minutes walk from were we stayed. I recommend visiting the onsen at the neighbouring hotel Takayama Green Hotel.

Beautiful, luxurious ryokan with good food and extremely friendly staff. We felt very well taken care of. The ryokan is a bit outside the centre of Takayama, but with the shuttle bus that is no problem at all. We loved our room with our own onsen tub on the balcony - it was quite special soaking there at night, looking out into the Japanese Alps.

Nicest ryokan room we came across during our trip, perfect condition, very spacious, separate living room and bedroom, in-room onsen bath was fantastic, more comfortable beds than standard ryokans. The hotel's private onsen is incredible too, and even included in room price. Staff were all lovely, as is tradition in Japan.
