As the hotel is classified as a business hotel I expected a small but comfortable room as per the usual Japanese business hotel. However the twin room we were given was the biggest room I've experienced in Japan for this type of hotel! Even the toilet was spacious in comparison to many others I've come across in business hotels. The breakfast provided was buffet style and was of a high quality and very generous in the amount of food and variety provided. The location of the hotel was almost perfect being only 5 minutes walk from the station and 1 minute to a large supermarket. In addition all the sites to see were very close by. Being of larger Western body type I especially enjoyed the provision of a yukata size that actually fitted me well. Thanks New Palace!!

The room was lovely and comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. They also have excellent service- I accidentally left my power bank behind and they very helpfully sent it to my next hotel within a couple of days. Would go again!

Fantastic Stay – Convenient, Clean & Thoughtful! I had a wonderful experience at this guest house and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area! 1️⃣ Great Location: The place is super convenient—just a short walk from the station and close to major attractions. There’s even a Lawson convenience store nearby, making it easy to grab snacks or essentials. 2️⃣ Spotlessly Clean: The room and shared spaces were immaculate, which made my stay very comfortable. It’s clear that the host takes hygiene seriously! 3️⃣ Thoughtful Amenities: I was impressed by how well-stocked the place was—they provided everything from body lotion and makeup remover to deodorizing spray. These little touches made my stay so much more comfortable. 4️⃣ Smooth Unmanned Check-In: The self-check-in system was seamless and hassle-free. The premises were very well kept. We enjoyed going around town on the bikes. We have slept on futons in other places that were very hard but these futons were actually comfortable. We stayed here one night before heading into the mountains and for that purpose Shingū was a good stop. Big supermarkets to fuel up for walks.

The area is a good gateway to important Kumano Kodo spots. Moss House is a short walk from Miwasaki train station. The apartment has everything you need, the kitchen is well-equipped. It is clean and practical. There is space to park your car. But most importantly, Fumi-san who runs Moss House is a gracious and hospitable host. Her and her husband have been incredibly helpful and made us feel very welcome.

The facility is charming! It is a wooden cottage in the middle of mountains with beautiful view. There is a river just next by, so if you get there early, you can refresh yourself there. The rooms are spacious and there is a place you can hang your wet clothes. There is also a common space where you can hang out with other guests. I also used it when my room-mate wanted to sleep and I was still working on PC. Very useful and convenient. There's very well working Wi-Fi, as well. The dinner was delicious. We had seasonal steamed vegetable with rice. They have vegetarian (tofu) and non-vegetarian (meat dumplings) version. For breakfast there were toasts with cheese, jams, peanut butter, yogurt, fruit etc. You can also prepare a meal for your next journey. The beds are comfortable and you have great view from windows. The kitchen is very well equipped and you can use it if you need. You can make yourself coffee anytime, which I very appreciated. The staff was friendly and very helpful. She could speak Japanese, English and Spanish, which was quite fun because all the guests there could also speak Spanish for some reason. :-D

Shingu is a small coastal town with few hills which is a...

Shingu is a small coastal town with few hills which is a wonderful to find after 10 days hiking on the mountainous Kumano Kodo pilgrimage walks. One of the 3 Great Shrines is here and very accessible whether walking or driving. Getting to and from Shingu is very easy with the train station and bus station being together in the center of town. It is a good base for reaching the other 2 Great Shrines of the Kumano Kodo at Hongu and Nachisan. There are a number of good eateries in the town but one of the joys was just wandering down laneways and discovering little gems not listed in the usual guides.
