Staying in this place is like fulfilling a dream! We absolutely loved it, our favourite accommodation of our one month trip in Japan. It's hard to believe that you have the whole house to yourself, it's incredible value for money and a must if you're in the area and want a unique Japanese cultural experience. Just book it and see for yourself!

Ties campground was an absolute pleasure. All the fun of camping with almost none of the work! The host was fantastic and kind and the place had absolutely everything we needed. The foot bath was a welcome addition after a long day of trekking in the rain!

We absolutely loved this very special place. The owners live on the property, a beautifully restored old farmhouse with unique and creative details wherever you happen to look. Our family room was very spacious and comfortable for us and our two teenagers, with Japanese style beds and pretty views of surrounding mountains . After hiking from Magome to Tsumago and taking the short bus ride to Nagiso we were picked up and driven to the house. Staff were very welcoming , dinner was delicious and we did a sake tasting and tried some home made plum wine too. The next morning we were able to do short walk in the area, had a lovely breakfast of home made yoghurt, fruits and cheese toasts and were driven back to Nagiso station. Wish we could have stayed a little longer to really enjoy the character of this place and explore the area more ! So glad we chose to stay here !!

I came across this accomodation during my trip of the Nakasendo and I am happy that I did. Yasuhiro was a great, caring host. He made this stay an experience compared to none. Yasuhiro had great recommendations for activities and restaurants in the area and there were also bikes you could rent for free. The building is traditional, but it has everything you could wish for. All in all the stay was top notch!

Really nice staff. Two lounges available to chill in, both with free coffee, tea and cocoa. Very unique to sleep in a former school. The place feels very alive with some community events still happening in the school. Capsule style beds were very nice, enough space to stall out your gear and even has a little locker for valuables in the capsules.

We stayed for two nights so we could hike the Nakasendo Trail (Magome to Tsumago); allowing additional time to travel there and then time to relax before heading off. It seems a bit out of the way on the map, but that's exactly what we loved about the experience. Sakashita is in the mountains, is very quiet and non-touristy. If you love getting away from the hustle and bustle of the larger cities, then this will fit the bill. The host was wonderful; he drove us to the trailhead (10 minutes) and gave clear instructions how to return, via a short bus and train ride. We were given dinner recommendations and chose Shuku Rin. Good choice. The host there was fantastic; she wasn't open until 6pm, but opened early as she saw us outside, most likely looking a bit sad and lost. This was a shared home, with a shared kitchen, sitting rooms, toilet and shower. We consider ourselves fortunate that we had the house to ourselves. An absolute must; stop at the restaurant partway on the trail and have Goehi Mochi (toasted rice balls on sticks, with warm sesame and walnut soy sauce.) What I would do to have one now... Our regret? Not having one (or two) orders each.

it was great to stay right on the Old Nakasendo Way, in an authentic traditional house. It was an easy walk to the Suhara train station, supermarket and restaurants. We took a train and bus to Magome-juku one day and walked via Magome Pass to Tsumago-juku - which was an absolute highlight of our 3 weeks in Japan.
