I love this place--and I can't remember the last time I wrote that on a booking.com review. Brand new wooden cabins squeezed in a tight valley in the middle of the woods, next to a little stream of water. The lodges owner lives in a cabin next door, warm welcome and always willing to help. The cabin was squeaky clean, had everything I could desire and even more (a piano!). The private onsen is a few steps away from the cabin, if you want something more social there's plenty of public onsens around (one down the road has a view on the river). Quiet, fresh air, plenty of hikes a short drive away. I stayed in the middle of winter, heating and thermal insulations were on point.

All was perfect - if you want a private stay in a wonderful surrounding, off the tourist paths, this is the right place! Private onsen is great and the two other onsen-huts offer great views to nature, while relaxing. A lot of nice trails and hikes along beautiful rivers available nearby. Served as a lovely home base to explore the Aso Kuju area. The room was spacious and clean with a private onsen which was hot. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. The Japanese breakfast was great (they also offered to prepare a Western style breakfast). Unfortunately it was rainy/cloudy during most of our stay, but there was a nice view from the deck. It's probably best to have a car to reach the accommodation. Would highly recommend staying here!

If you want to experience peaceful Japanese style, this is a great choice. Here you can see everything you imagine about Japanese life: hot springs hidden among trees, traditional Japanese gardens at the foot of hills, and shallow streams not far away. I love sitting on the tatami in my room drinking tea, as the table perfectly reflects the red maple trees in the courtyard. Meanwhile, the infrastructure here is well-developed, with no need to worry about transportation or dining. The hotel provides shuttle bus service and serves exquisite meals. Especially Nagamichi san, who is responsible for receiving us, is very professional, friendly and gentle. He always pays attention to your needs in advance and warmly asks for your opinions, but not overdoing it, just like the spring water here. And all the other staff are responsible and reliable.
