Takai the owner was sooooo helpful, it made all the difference to my stay in Matsumoto. I loved the book he made describing the different restaurants and what their specialities were. So much love and hard work have gone into making this place special. Takai was patient and answered all of my questions and went out of his way to help me. I am very grateful for his kindness and consideration. Lots of eating and drinking places are only a few minutes away as is the castle. It's also only about 15 minutes walk from the station so even with a suitcase I could walk here.

The offer of toiletries to take to the onsen, bikes to cycle round the city and free washing facilities made it such an easy place to stay without hidden extra costs. The kitchen was well kitted out. Staff and other travellers very friendly.

Hotel was great! Very clean and comfortable. Staff were helpful. Location was very good - close to all local attractions and transport. Room was spacious even for 3 people with an added extra bed. I would definitely stay again and highly recommend it.

Close to Matsumoto Castle. Ice machine in the laundry. Reasonable sized bath tub in the ensuite if you want a.relaxing soak but don't feel like going to the onsen. Very modern and comfortable place to stay.

This hostel has honestly exceeded all expectations. It was clean, close to the bus/train stations and the staff were all very helpful. As a female solo traveler, I was very comfortable and they also had so many amenities that I wished I spent more days with them. A female staff member (I don't remember her name, Sorry) was so helpful since It was the first time, I was trying out an onsen. She made me very comfortable.

The room was spacious enough. The beds comfortable. The location is perfect, close to the station (3 min walk) and walking distance to major attractions (the castle, the frog street etc). Ended up extending 1 night my stay and there was no issue.

Thisis an excellent hotel, with tons of free amenities, and only 5 minutes walking from the train station. The castle (probably your main reason to stay in Matsumoto) is about 10 minutes walking. Loved it here!

A nice and quiet city with a lot to offer.

A nice and quiet city with a lot to offer. A good base for a day trip to Kamikochi which is a fantastic hiking place. Driving around the city is nice with alps on the backdrop. Matsumoto city alps park is a great place for activities and hangout. Tower of beauty has fantastic mountain views and panoramic scenery. Visit the wasabi farm for interesting and nice wasabi products. Last but not least, the beautiful Matsumoto castle, which will light up at night.

I enjoyed the castle and Kamikochi (bus tour with Snow Monkey Resorts), Nawate Market Street, museum, cultural experience (at Mukugean) and Aeon Mall. I stayed for 3 nights but wish I'd stayed longer to allow time for the City Alps Park and some other day trips.

We really liked Matsumoto and it was a much more fun and interesting city than we expected. We had an overnight stay, largely to visit the famous castle, after visiting Kiso valley. Would happily have stayed longer.

If you are considering buying something from bookoff in...

If you are considering buying something from bookoff in another city, make sure you visit the one in the Alpico plaza first. They are cheaper than the ones in Osaka. There’s a yakiniku place that’s really good but I can’t remember the name but it’s not far away from the matsumo station. For anyone wanting to visit kamikochi in this rainy season, I suggest you get a hotel here and just book a bus ticket for kamikochi the night before visiting so you’ll know for sure what kind of weather you’ll be dealing with. Also, if you haven’t visited Narai-juku, check it out and complete the trail, you’ll be more than amazed.

Matsumoto castle was beautiful, especially lit up at night. The Kasuma Yayoi gallery was impressive, with a really nice courtyard and cafe for lunch or a drink. Nakamichi street has really interesting architecture; with very quaint shops including one serving delicious shaved ice desserts!

l love the small cosy Matsumoto nothing like other big cities. it has its own charm and the food was great. the people are warm and friendly in spite of language barrier. staying near the station was a plus making our hopping from place to place an easy task. delighted to visit Wasabi Farm and enjoyed wonderful time taking beautiful pictures. Got a chance to enjoy Wasabi ice-cream too, just disappointed that we missed the harvest of wasabi onsite. Hope to visit again and explore further.

The ryokan has an excellent shuttle service from Matsumoto station to the hotel. They also have a shuttle service to go to kamikochi, and they also offer a way back to Matsumoto. Súper useful and efficient. The amount of food is amazing and the quality was super good. They explained to us how to eat and deal with everything. Onsen hours are really long and great. The onsen is quite big and outside is amazing. The place is quiet with nice views.

It is on the cheap side considering it's super short distance from Matsumoto station. Only that it is on the'back alley side' side of the station, instead of on the front side that is brighter and more happening. Our room has a beutiful mountain view and the room is quite big too (comes with big closet) for that price and location. Hotel decor feels old and still use physical room key, not digital key. The room is clean

This hotel was very unique! It was a mix of business style and Japanese style. I decided to go with this hotel for our one night stay in Matsumoto as it features a roof top onsen, and the price is not much more compared to other hotels in the area. It obviously does not compare to a ryokan, but still a great bonus to have! I also enjoyed the many freebies such as popsicles, yakult, and free drinks in the lobby.

Tidy little hotel close by to Matsumoto Castle. As I have come to expect from Japanese hotels in this price range, the hotel was very clean and well maintained. However, the room was smaller than I had expected from looking at the pictures. They offer free parking but it was located two streets away.
