Excellent location - right next to the Sakura tunnel. You can enjoy it at night and slowly make your way back to the station the next day. It's a Japanese style house so it is very cosy and calming. The cat is also adorable and friendly (though you can't normally touch him) There is air conditioning and we also got a big hot water bottle and it was amazing to cuddle it at night! There was also some spring water(?) available to drink. The owner is able to explain all amenities in English so I didn't have to turn on my Japanese speaking part of my brain. She also gave some recommendations on where to go. Asami is an excellent host 👍 I wish i could come here again.

We will never forget our perfect stay here. This Heart Residence really has a place in our hearts. We had spacious rooms, a wonderful little onsen of our own. An outdoor (foot-)bath additional to the indoor bath. A awesomely equiped kitchen, a nice living room and comfy beds. We enjoyed the wonderful Kawazu Zakura, went Sightseeing to the Castle Ruins, were bathing in the ocean. It was soooo perfect! We hope to stay here again because these were the best days of our entire four-week journey! All the love for letting us stay here. :)

What an experience! We stayed at Mizumari during our honeymooon and I can honestly say we have never felt more welcomed, relaxed, and cared for than we did at Mizumari. Taiyo and his staff are truly incredible and work to meet your every need. For example, when we arrived, we mentioned a specific drink that we had enjoyed on our trip. The next day, Taiyo had sent someone to find the item and served it to us in several different forms. Everyone was so attentive and kind, and we were incredibly sad to leave! The food is incredible and plentiful- the best we had in Japan. We really loved the fresh and creative nature of the food, with a nice mix of seafood and meat dishes including locally sourced foods. The courses keep on coming so be sure to save space! We also appreciated that the staff was very helpful in recommending drinks pairings that go with the meal (and which are included in the booking price). The space was recently rennovated and has a very clean and modern look. We stayed in room 1, which has a large living room, separate bedroom and a patio overlooking the creek with a gorgeous and large onsen tub fed by the hotsprings. The entire space feels very private and quiet. The location is also great, a few steps away from the start of the seven waterfalls hike (which we loved- we had it all to ourselves when we went around 10am), and only a 20minute drive from the coast, where there is limitless hiking and exploring.

Our stay here was one of the best experiences we had in Japan. The house beautifully combines traditional Japanese architecture with thoughtful, modern interior design - from the retro-style equipped kitchen and cozy tatami areas to the private onsen and elegant, almost royal bedrooms. Every corner is tastefully designed and well maintained, with a minimalist garden outside that completes the serene atmosphere. The morning sun filled the house with beautiful light, making it feel truly special. The location was also excellent - close enough to explore nearby nature spots, waterfalls, and coastal views. The house can easily accommodate up to 10 people without feeling crowded, with at least three double beds and plenty of space on the tatami floors. Practical details were also well covered: two smart toilets, a washing machine, and even drip coffee equipment for slow mornings. We only wish we could have stayed longer – and we’re already dreaming about coming back someday.

Kawazu is a place I visit every year because of the sakura festival. Of course this year the festival was officially cancelled, but other than the cancelation being on paper nothing changed - cherry trees still in bloom, food and omiyage stands everywhere, but many other stands with temperature checks. Kawazu offers quite a lot, being the location of a novel from a Nobel prize winning Japanese author, waterfalls, garden, hot springs and a calm atmosphere. And not far from Tokyo.

The Kawazu cherry blossoms are a must-see!

The Kawazu cherry blossoms are a must-see! It was a little early, but I'm sure they would be beautiful in full bloom. Not only are the rows of cherry blossoms along the river beautiful, but the original Kawazu cherry trees and the large camphor tree designated as a natural monument at Kawazu Kurumiya Shrine (Suginamiwake no Mikoto Shrine) are also wonderful, so if you love plants, it's a must-see. It's about 2km from Kawazu Station, so you can walk around while admiring the cherry blossoms. If you like reptiles, I also recommend iZoo, a little further south. It's easy to get there by car, but it's just over 2km from Kawazu Station, so you can also walk there in about 30 minutes.

It's rich in nature, with the sea, mountains, and rivers, and there's plenty of delicious food. I have fond memories of about 36 years ago when I went to a high school soccer club training camp and ran from a guesthouse in Imaihama to Minami Elementary School, practicing 16km round trip on the grounds three times in the early morning, midday, and afternoon, and being encouraged by the people of Kawazu. Since then, I've been coming here almost every year. Recently, it's become a tradition to have omelet rice at the restaurant next to the 7-Eleven in front of Kawazu Station. It's a cozy place run by a married couple.
