This hotel is like paradise! They have a private ferry to shuttle you to the hotel and when you get there, the staff are on top of assisting you with bags and anything. Rooms are a bit of a walk from the lobby (around 2-5 mins) but once you get there, you're greeted with an amazing traditional spacious tatami room and a breath-taking view. Their onsen is great too, with a huge selection of shampoo and conditioner, spacious locker area and bathing area, and an outdoor onsen as an option. Their package breakfast and dinner are also amazing, where you'll experience very traditional Japanese food. You can have a morning walk on their mountaintop, which you can access through the roof deck. There's a small shrine also to pay respects and you can watch dolphins jump around the ocean while fishing with a rented fishing rod.

We loved the onsens looking out at the ocean both in the day and the night. Its a very special experience to be warm in the onsen and then watch the oceans powerful waves. We had a beautiful view of the ocean from our room and watched the sunrise . It was also near Nachi falls which is very beautiful. Its a busy hotel but the staff were still incredibly helpful. Thankyou-We will remember this place forever!

The location of this homestay is extremely convenient. It's right beside the pedestrian overpass near Kii Tanabe Station. The facilities are well-equipped, and there is a hot spring bathtub in the bathroom. The tuna set dinner provided is delicious. Both the boss and the service staff are considerate and polite. This is a very peaceful little town on the southeast coast...

This is a very peaceful little town on the southeast coast of Kii Peninsula. The residents and store clerks are mostly senior citizens but they are polite and pleasant to meet. It’s the gateway to the Nashi area and the famous Kumano Kodo historical trail. You can also rent a bike at the Information Center next to the JR Kii Katsuura Station to quickly circle around town.

Katsuura is very scenic with beautiful bays, and a backdrop of mountains and small towns. Kii Katsuura is renowed for tuna fishing and so the freshest tuna sushimi can be found everywhere. Accommodation places are not far from the train station and local bus transport is available. While there are beaches as well as opportunity for recreational walking, we didn't have time to explore these options.

Only had half a day & 1 night but wish I had more. Convenient JR station with excellent help and support from train staff & information centre. With the fish market there it was a hotspot for locals enjoying fresh fish and sushi. Few other restaurants to choose from for more variety. Great spot for sightseeing if ocean views are your thing. The next suburb approx 5-10min away even has a shopping complex including cinema and western fast food (if you’re so inclined). Seemed like a good base to explore southern Wakayama and it’s not full of western tourists (yes I am aware of the irony leaving this review being a western tourist 😂)

Near the Kumano national park, a seaside town known for tuna and onsens. Local fish market near the harbour has fresh tuna sushi/sashimi. The big cave onsen inside hotel Urashima is a must visit, doesn't have to stay overnight, can visit via a day pass. Kumano Nachi Taisha shrine (part of Kumano Kodo hiking route) and waterfall is nearby. There are buses between Katsuura and Nachi. The visit takes around half a day.

Nachi Falls is a World Heritage Site that you definitely must see. There are a lot of stairs, so it may be difficult for those who are worried about climbing up and down. Katsuura also specializes in seafood, especially tuna. At a soba restaurant near the fishing port, the 100% buckwheat soba noodles are chewy and delicious, but the tuna bowl is insanely delicious. It's a very comfortable place to visit after seeing and eating. I entered from Kansai International Airport in a rental car. Even using the highway, it took quite a while, so I think you need to be creative with your transportation.

I regret scheduling a morning at Hongu Taisha and an afternoon at Nachi Taisha. Well, if you're just looking for something to do, it might be best to plan like I did, but if I come back here again, I think I'll plan on spending at least two days on both areas. There are quite a few places I haven't been able to see due to factors like travel time, sunset times, and my stamina. If you're not staying at a ryokan, it's fine to just use the hot springs at Hotel Urashima. If you're planning on going to Urashima Onsen, be sure to go during the day. Going at night eliminates the benefit of bathing in the hot springs with a view of the ocean.

The location of the hotel is great, it is quite secluded, which makes it wonderfully silent at night, but the town is still easily reachable by foot. The outdoor bath was exquisite, we spent quite some time there. Staff is very professional and accommodating. The shuttle to town was a big plus, we made good use of it. The view from our room was quite spectacular, we spent a lot of time on our "indoor balcony" with the windows open, listening to the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks below us.

Great views of the beach and surfers. 2 minutes from kii-temma station. The bedrooms are smallish, but have everything you need. And the beds are super comfy with very nice duvets & plump pillows. The bedroom window that is the width of the room and shows off the stretch of coast, is lovely……along with a tiny balcony. The breakfast is also great quality- tuna sashimi for breaky!!

The staff was really nice and the hotel has a great location directly at the station. There are very nice paintings in the hallways and the rooms are nice, clean, and comfy. There is an Onsen bath, separated by gender, in which tattoos are allowed. And there is xiffe and Tee available. Overall a great experience.
