The hotel was located right across from a supermarket which made it easy to get food and amenities. Parking was also easy to navigate - we drove a rental car so not having to pay for parking was a huge plus for us. It's also located near bus stops and trams stops.
We got a wonderful view overlooking Sakurajima from our room, and it was spacious enough for our group of 4.

The stores and restaurants in the train station were good.
The stores and restaurants in the train station were good. There is the famous Kiriko cut glass factory and gift shop, Senganen Gardens and an excellent restaurant with a view of the volcano, Yamakataya department store, and the people in Kagoshima are very helpful and friendly. Every time I go to Japan I go to Kagoshima now. It also has hot springs. It is easy to catch the bus and tram cars that come often to get around.

We liked the nearby shops, the closeness to ferry and trainstation with Shinkansen accessibility. We found a lot of different style restaurants nearby.
In our experience was 1 Queen-bed too small for 2 european people.
The free space allowed us to only open 1 suitcase at a time.

Fascinating, lively city, interesting surroundings, very approachable people. Good food, too. Public transport is well-organised and affordable, and easy to navigate. Sakurajima's brooding, smoke-spewing presence provides the city with a unique atmosphere. I recommend the Kagoshima Brands store for souvenirs and omiyage (9-1 Meizanchō, Kagoshima). And don't miss Sengenan on any account!

Kagoshima is a city with a large volcano in its back yard.
Kagoshima is a city with a large volcano in its back yard. It make for a different kind of vibe. It is also a port city with many ferries, mostly going south to the little island atchepelago that ends in Okinawa. Warmer weather than most of Japan but still pretty chill in January. Nice people, I found them friendly. I like the place.

Sakurajima ,Senganen, Siroyama, Tenmonkan, and so on. Famous sight seeing spots, I recommend you. And local foods, such as satsumaage, black pig, karukanmanjyu, kibinago, you had better try them.

The rural areas of southern Kagoshima are very different from the rest of Japan, with not so huge mountains and very spacious land. It gives a very nice and different vibe seeing all those flat farmlands spread along the see, with a backdrop of volcanoes and hot springs. There are also some good hiking spots. Especially, Yakushima is a paradise for hikers with its deep, pristine and quite untouched forests and streams.
Absolutely loved the place! It’s a hotel, but has a ryokan influence. The Japanese room was great, with enough room to move around and everything you need - water, tea, yukata, fridge etc
The onsen and traditional breakfast were great, too.
The location is perfect to visit many places of interest and the City View bus stop is just a couple of min walk from it.
My favourite thing was staff: they are all professional, friendly, welcoming, super kind and helpful. If I come back I will definitely stay here again, no doubt!
We spent four nights at Fav Kagoshima. Location was excellent, a calm residential neighborhood with plenty of parking spaces around the hotel. It only takes 10-15 minutes to get to Tenmonkan area by foot. The room was spacious, modern and very clean, with a washing machine and a small kitchenette with a great view of the city and the volcano.
Check in was fast and efficient, breakfast was delicious and the staff was incredibly helpful in making reservations at restaurants and answering our questions.
Clean modern hotel with modern bathroom and showers.
Parking for cars at reasonable rate (1000 yen per night) with free in and out privileges.
Free coffee, tea, hot chocolate in the vending machine in the lobby. Location was pretty good, in the middle of the shopping business district and around a 15 minute walk to the train station.
Adequate workout facility and coin laundry facility.
Very helpful staff.
Outstanding unobstructed view of Mount Sakurajima from the 10th floor breakfast room!
For ¥3000 in Central Kagoshima you can't expect much. The hotel is a 1980s business hotel trying to upgrade to a hostel. Check-in staff were welcoming with lobby containing a bar.Stayed in double room on the fifth floor. Appears to be undergoing upgrade. Own toilet in room but no hot water for shower. (Knew bathroom was share type when booking room.)Shower rooms on 3rd floor are modern and clean.
Close to entertainment and shopping but a bit far from Kagoshima Chuo station..(tram ¥170)
Everything was new and clean. Great value for money. The room was comfortably set up. The staff was exceptional - for medical reasons my partner needs a second pillow and they were very kind and helpful in providing us one. The location is very convenient right next to a Lawson and shops. Easy to get dinner and breakfast if you are not getting it at the hotel.
The breakfast buffet was superb with too many wonderful choices. The outdoor onsen with the full view of Sakurajima (the breakfast hall also has the same view) cannot be beat. With the large hotel, there were many shopping choices (Family Mart convenience store, bakery, half a dozen restaurants, and gift shop) onsite.
Perfect location in the heart of Kagoshima city. The hotel was modern looking, extremely clean and amazing value for money. The perfect hotel for someone looking for a place to stay the night when having a night out in Kagoshima city. Lots of bars, restaurants, shops and parks all around the hotel
Location adjoining JR Kagoshimachuo rail station so it was perfect.
The hotel looked to be almost brand new at December 2023.
The room we selected was the larger option and there was plenty of space everywhere. It was equipped with a toilet in a separate room.
Staff were polite and helpful.
Every room has a nice view of Sakurajima (as does the public bath). This is a great location if you want a nice in-hotel onsen with good views. The bath was especially soothing after active days walking around town. We really enjoyed having hotpot at the hotel's Shichisai restaurant.
The standard twin room was relatively bigger than other hotels in Japan. The room itself was renovated and clean.
There is a parking lot right in front of the hotel and very close to Tenmonkan, restaurants and bar area.
Last but not least, the buffet breakfast was really good.
Big room with a TV, really nice shower and bathroom space. It’s right in the main centre of Kagoshima and near the tram lines so it’s very convenient. The ferry port is also a short walk away. The price is reasonable but more expensive than other Grand Base hotels I’ve used.
The hotel is a luxury property in a beautiful location directly facing Sakurajima volcano and overlooking the city of Kagoshima and Kinko Bay. The service was excellent and the rooms were comfortable and immaculately clean. The onsen shares the stunning view.
Very good location across from the Kagoshima Chou station. Hotel is in a good location close to the Dept. Store and Aeon Mall. Nice view of Sakurajima Mountain from the lobby.
Good buffet breakfast.
Great location! Easy access to bus terminal for airport shuttle and the main station for Kagoshima city. Well-equipped room with 2 double beds for maximum comfort. It’s pretty much like a home!
Close to midtown Kagoshima and the major areas.
Room had a partially obscured view but a view.
Top room is great for looking at Kagoshima, being among the higher areas.
