Fufu Hakone provides a five-star Japanese Onsen hotel experience. I loved almost every aspect of the hotel except the location, lol. But the free shuttle service is quite helpful as well. We used the shuttle to travel between the hotel and Gora station before check-in and from the hotel to Sōunzan station when we checked out. The service of the hotel was professional, polite, respectful, and personally oriented. It was a very impressive stay. The Japanese Kaiseki Ryori was delicious and artfully presented. We only spent one night at the hotel because we were informed that the rooms were fully booked the next day, we would definitely come back for our holidays to Japan.

Second time staying at this property and whilst I thought my first stay was fantastic my experience was further enhanced by the English competency of the staff present this time around which meant for no misunderstandings. The facilities are great for onsen with indoor and outdoor facilities, as well as cypress hot tub in the bedroom. Above all the food is Michelin worthy multi course for dinner and breakfast with various wine and non alcoholic pairings. Its modern interpretation of Japanese traditional cuisine from the region, locally sourced really imaginative. Really fantastic stay again and would visit when next on business in Tokyo.

If you don't have a car, travel around the Hakone area will be by train and local bus. Try and get hold of a bus route map when you arrive as it can make it a lot easier to plan your connections.

Hakone is a lovely relaxing spot to stay after the bustle of Japanese Cities. We chose to stay here for a few days at the end of our trip, which was perfect. Definitely try one of the local Onsens - even if you feel a little uncomfortable about it - this was possibly the best part of our trip. The Hakone round trip is also great.

I didn't get further than Gora.

I didn't get further than Gora. I found it to be overcrowded and was glad to leave. I intended to spend some time in nature, but there are too many traffic jams and people. I was there on a Monday so I can't imagine what it would be like on the weekend. There are probably areas that are quieter, there was hard wind so the cable car didn't go and that led to more people driving up in cars and buses. I didn't have the Hakone Free Pass so I could just get on any bus and I was glad for that because there were a lot of people at bus stops who couldn't get into a bus because of their Free Pass.

A quiet town but buzzling with Tradition and History.

A quiet town but buzzling with Tradition and History. The food is amazing and the Onsen's are good. Biggest Challenge here is the transport. I recommend renting a car here especially if you want to go to neighbouring areas like Shizuoka, Fujikawaguchiko and Kamakura so see Mt. Fuji.

Loved the Open Air Museum -- great sculpture garden. And it has a foot bath, because why not? Nearby we stopped at the Gyoza Center, which was delicious. We did the Ropeway, and were delighted by the whole active volcano thing. There's a foot bath there, too. My feet have never been so pampered. With more time, I would have taken a ferry on the lake, and/or trained around to the other parts of Hakone, which is actually more spread out than I fully appreciated. I know people do Hakone as a day trip from Tokyo, but I think it was quite fun to stay and experience the full effect of hot springs culture.

The cable car ride up and over the volcanic fumaroles

The cable car ride up and over the volcanic fumaroles then down to Lake Ashi, and a boat trip across the lake. The parks, gardens and the cedar lined old Tokkaido Edo period road A reconstructed gatehouse and one of the old 17th century "Stations" on the Tokkaido. Fantastic views of Fuji san. One of the highlights of my trip

Great location with lake views 2 min walk from Hakone Ropeway and pirate sightseeing ship dock. Fairly spacious room with balcony and private onsen. The onsen in the hotel is inside/outside and very nice and equipped with toiletries and Dyson hairdryers. Breakfast and dinner buffets have lots of options including alcohol at dinner. Everyone wears the provided yukata and pyjamas, really nice and relaxed vibe. Free shuttle from train station. Staff all friendly and helpful.

The hotel is in a fab location, 2 minutes from the train station. The room is authentic and really comfortable and clean. The breakfast and dinner are served in a private dining room, are delicious if you like Japanese food! - and we thought great value for money. The private Onsen is an experience as is the open air bath if you book that room. We would really recommend. Make sure you are hungry for breakfast and dinner! Hakone pass is gpod value fo r money.

We were really impressed with the beautiful lobby space, gorgeous in-room onsen and cozy beds. Our room was spacious and had beautiful views onto the forest and down onto the river below. Staff were very friendly and spoke wonderful English. The kaiseki dinner was lovely too. We liked that the hotel was so close to the bus stop which goes up to Gora or down to Hakone Yumoto.

Wonderful location! Room enormous compared to Japanese hotel standards. Beds comfy. Onsen is excellent as well, I became a big big fan. We also used the shuttles to Motohakone and then to Odawara station, always on time and very handy.
