Everything!!!!!!! Fantastic location, superior accommodation. Well laid out and fully equipped. Host is fantastic with a good command of English. Property is within the old city area and surrounded by history.only slight slight issue was the internet was being upgraded but not done. Didn’t matter a bit as we logged into restaurants we used. Lovely garden to sit in and able to park our car in the garden was a definite plus. Many thanks to Lucia for a wonderful visit.

I was there to photograph several churches but found the city charming and could have enjoyed another day there. The Hotel Moderno right across from the train station was a great choice given its location close to the historic center, reserved on street parking, and proximity to the train station.

If you like interesting old churches and a lively town...

If you like interesting old churches and a lively town centre Pavia is a great place to visit for a couple of days. About 5 miles out of town is an amazing monastery complex. You can get there by bus or train but these methods required too much walking in the intense heat so we took taxis. Well worth a visit. Everyone friendly and helpful.

Pavia has wonderful medieval churches and a big museum at the Castello. The tomb of St. Augustine is amazing, and is a favorite stopping point of Pope Leo XIV. Boethius is also buried in Pavia. The city still keeps traditional Mediterranean hours (2-2 1/2-hour break midday), so it takes a day or two longer to see all the sites. We found good restaurants and would happily have stayed longer. It is said that April-May are the best months to visit, and it was already hot (80 degrees) at the end of May.

I've visited Pavia a few times.

I've visited Pavia a few times. In a recent visit, I went to the Museo Kosmos, the Natural History Museum. Founded in the 1700's it's one of the world's oldest museums dedicated to natural history, but with a modern vibe - apparently over 500 exhibits (I didn't count them!), multimedia games, videos, interactive activities for children. An excellent place of learning.

Pavia has a modern centre and the older part has some lovely buildings. Certosa di Pavia, an old monastery, is 9 minutes by train (don't forget to validate your ticket in the machine next to the platform entrance). Do check the opening times, though. Pavia would also be convenient for visiting other cities in the area

It was a great stop on the Via Francigena (on the route directly) and I highly recommend it! It’s just out of the city centre and like us, if you prefer a quiet area, this is perfect. A very nice big apartment that was clean and included a washing machine. It also has a kitchen and the supermarket is only a 10 minute walk away. It had everything we needed. Our host was super lovely and friendly and willing to assist us in any way. If we return to Pavia for a longer visit, this is where we’ll be booking.

Location, facility, service and cleanliness are all high standard. We travelled during the train strike but all hustle paid off. The staff was so helpful and kind. We absolutely enjoyed staying in Pavia which was a real discovery for us.
