We were up to a closer look at the Duomo di Monreale. A magnificent Normannic Cathedral, outstanding in architecture and Biblical tales. No place came closer than the Locanda. Just across the narrow street, in front of the cathedral. Welcomed by the host Helen, we right away felt at home. She pointed us to a single room flat of high standard with a balcony so close to the cathedral as if you could touch the masterpiece. I am a believer in the same story this Normannic house of God testifies. Moreover, I believe in the simplicity, characteristed by the Normans. Likewise, the Locanda. Simple, yet of high standard. Surely we'll stay at the Locanda when we return to Monreale the next time.

Location is tops, we arrived on time as per our notice to the host, Alessandro and he helped us locate street parking swiftly. We had been driving and travelling all day and the room was quite welcoming and spotless. We showered immediately and headed out for dinner. We could enjoy a glass of wine on both nights as we didn't have to drive to our accommodation. We went for a walk around and couldn't help but notice how the residential areas had clean streets and pavements. The linen at the apartment was soft and fresh smelling, the AC was welcoming and the host kindly provided complimentary bottled water and coffee and tea.... Small touches that are appreciated until you find a general store which we discovered on the way back from the piazza. The interior decorator is modern but unmistakably Sicilian. This was a good location for our day in Cefalu/Palermo. We opted to have our dinners in Monreal. Plenty of choices and the people dress up and go out and are very social. We also noted lots of pizza boxes coming out as takeaway from a nearby takeout pizzeria, no dine in but super popular with the locals. Zia Lia. The apartment is well equipped with utensils and there's also a big fridge/freezer. Highly recommended, the rooms are on the first floor and there's is no lift, so not accessible for people with mobility issues, 10/10 from us.

We liked everything! It was a great decision to stay away from Palermo. Location is great to visit the Duomo of Monreale and take a bus to Palermo. It's a bit of a walk-up, though. Big room, cosy interiors. Wonderful breakfast, secure parking in the yard. Special thank you to the wonderful hosts! It was very easy to discuss some questions before arrival. Thank you!

Its a nice town and the Cathedral is stunning. Also if you like a more quiet environment and prefer not to stay in Palermo Monreale is a very good option as it has a quick bus connection to Piazza Indipendenza.

The Duomo is exceptional and a must-see, but this is also...

The Duomo is exceptional and a must-see, but this is also the main draw-back in that very shortly after opening in the morning it is heaving with tour parties. Evenings are very pleasant as very few tourists stay there. It is also very handy for day trips to Palermo, although as the bus service seems to have been reduced since I was there 9 years previously, I ended up having to drive to the city, which is not exactly stress-free!

The cathedral is one of the finest in Sicily and is a must visit. The complex is beautiful and can be viewed from the top level of the cathedral. Exquisite embroidered vestaments and silverware, accessories and ceramics are displayed on different levels of the staircase. The village is quaint with good restaurants.

Lots to visit, but our timing was terrible and it was raining. The cathedral is a must, but we didn't arrive in time before they closed. Same with the other museums. The city is walkable and there are lots of cute restaurants. You really need a full day there to appreciate.

Monreale is a city built on the side of the mountain, so be prepared to walk up hills and stairs! The big attraction there is the Duomo in the main square which is just beautiful in the inside as the artwork is done in gold! You will have to pay an entrance fee, but it is worth it. The streets can be a bit of challenge to navigate as there are street vendors, cars, vespas, bicycles and pedestrians all trying maneuver through the narrow streets. Monreale gives you a beautiful view of Palermo and the ocean.

We spent only an afternoon here, but so glad that we included it on our trip. The cathedral was the most beautiful we had seen on our trip to Italy - we also visited ones in Palermo, Cefalu, and Catania. There were several interesting restaurants on side streets near the town center and we found a lovely ceramic/mosaic shop just off the central square. Views were amazing and it was an easy car ride to the airport for our departure the next day.

The location is very good. Not too far from Palermo. Monreale is a really nice town. Bakery,local market and plenty of restaurants for a one week stay. I was worried about the car parking, but actually I had no problems finding a place near home. I felt like home after 4 days!

The staff were very helpful kind and welcoming. The location is close to monreale cathedral and a bus to palermo though the walk is sharply uphill. Beautiful views from the balcony.
