An attractive city with numerous pleasant squares.

An attractive city with numerous pleasant squares. The northern Italian evening aperitif with finger food is well in evidence. Several lakes immediately close by, but in November few boat trips available. Palazzo Te has amazing frescoes.

Mantova is a quaint historical town with much to see.

Mantova is a quaint historical town with much to see. We encountered two festivals that enhanced the visit. The town has many delightful restaurants that excite the palate. The town is known for its sbrisolona and squash filled tortellini. Both quite delicious. Based on the ancient history and that of the Gonzagas there is much to see.

Mantova is beautiful and there is so much to do.

Mantova is beautiful and there is so much to do. We loved the lake cruise, the Palazzo Te (crazy paintings) the Ducal Palace and just exploring the old town with its rich and wonderful architecture. One of the loveliest cities we have visited.

2 nights / days in Mantova was perfect. Its a hidden gem.

2 nights / days in Mantova was perfect. Its a hidden gem. So rare to be able to go to places like this with no crowds, great food/culture and atmosphere. Didn't feel ripped off, prices were reasonable. The sites were as good as if not better than Venice minus the canals and crowds. They don't call this town/city the inland Venice for nothing.

Ducal palace and Te palace were amazing not just for the artwork but for the incredible decorated ceilings and walls. Lake tour is well worth doing. Mantegnas house disappointing. It is an easy town to walk around and see everything. The Duomo and of course the Basilica are stunning but also the very old circular church. We were lucky enough to have a walk around their library founded in 1770 and don’t miss the cute little theatre Bibiena where Mozart played.

We had just limited time to see Mantova - in the evening after our arrival. But nice town to go for walk also in the evening, many old palaces and houses, nice atmosphere, lot of possibilities for nice dinner.

A disaster in every way. Hotel was closed when we arrived. No answer on phone or email. We couldn’t get in and had to find an alternative at the last minute. One of the worst expletives we’ve had in 25 years of travelling. Avoid at all costs.
