Luino is quite a large town with lots of options for...

Luino is quite a large town with lots of options for entertainment in the evenings, as well as access to the lake and its amenities. It is not overpopulated with tourists (we went in September) and still retains its own identity.

Luino had some nice parts to it, but was not the most...

Luino had some nice parts to it, but was not the most picturesque of the towns along Lake Maggiore, and there were not many tourists. It was a good base to catch the ferry( which we did most days) to different locations along the lakes. We particularly enjoyed going to Cannero (15 mins on the ferry) and had some fabulous walks on the other side of the lake. We enjoyed the Wednesday market in Luino.

Nice and cozy town with everything you need for a shorter relaxing vacation. Good ferry, train, and bus connections - we travelled by train and it worked great. The Wednesday market is large and exciting and highly recommended. However, we would have liked to see even more local products presented by their producers. Unfortunately, there wasn't much of that. Except for Wednesdays, not overrun by tourists, but very "everyday" despite its location. It is not possible to swim in the town itself, which we found a bit difficult to figure out beforehand - so here's this service announcement for others ;)

Luino is a lovely little Italian town away from bigger more...

Luino is a lovely little Italian town away from bigger more popular ones on the lake. I liked the laid back atmosphere and lovely walks along the lake front. There are some nice shops and it is not an expensive place.

We arrived from Australia and took a train from Milan...

We arrived from Australia and took a train from Milan Malpensa all the way to Luino for the night as the next day we were off to Cannobio for a 1 week stay. It is always great to explore towns like this.

Luino is a charming town on Lake Maggiore.

Luino is a charming town on Lake Maggiore. It’s very close to the Swiss border and Lugano—so prices are more affordable. (: Wednesday Market in Luino is not to be missed. We heard a lot of favorable commentary and it didn’t disappoint. Plan on spending at least a half day to see it all. Highly recommended.

The apartment was really clean and modern and had everything you needed. Even though it was situated on the top floor under the roof, the living room and kitchen were really large and spacious. Location was great, right in the centre of Luino close to shops, restaurants and bars as well as the waterfront. The hosts were also really friendly and gave us lots of recommendations for the surrounding area.

The hotel was very nicely located on the boulevard. The sea view was good and the there were separate terraces where you could sit and enjoy the view. There was also a jacuzzi on one terrace which was a pleasant experience. The staff were really friendly and helpful, they were always available to help. The breakfast was vet nicely done, including items that you could order.

Nice cosy little apartment within walking distance (less than 5 minutes) of Lago Maggiore and the town centre of Luino. Apartment had everything we needed for a short stay (2 nights), including light breakfast and coffee. A good base for exploring around the lake. Nice little shared courtyard/garden where the kids could keep themselves busy.
