We stayed here for two nights during our trip to Sicily, and it was honestly one of the highlights of our entire stay. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such warmth and hospitality. The service was outstanding — the staff went above and beyond to make us feel at home and ensure everything we needed was taken care of. The food deserves a special mention: every single meal was absolutely incredible, with rich flavors, fresh ingredients, and that unmistakable touch of Sicilian love. Whether it was breakfast or dinner, we were always impressed. The atmosphere was peaceful and authentic, a perfect retreat just a little outside of the busy center of Catania. We left feeling completely recharged — and very well fed! We would 100% return and can’t recommend this place enough to anyone traveling to Sicily. A truly special experience.

FAQs about hotels in Catania

A Perfect Combination of Ancient and Modern

Located on Sicily’s eastern coast, at the foot of Mount Etna, Catania is the island’s second largest city. This charming destination features unique Sicilian Baroque architecture, large squares, avenues and a very important port.

On the northern side of the Cathedral Square, the historical Palazzo degli Elefanti houses the Town Hall of Catania. The Elephant Fountain is the city’s symbol and the entrance to the main shopping area. Surrounded by stunning Baroque buildings, Piazza del Duomo is a popular meeting point for tourists and locals.

Dedicated to Saint Agata and built over the Roman Baths of Achilles, the Duomo has an impressive facade that is one of Gia Battista Vaccarini’s masterpieces. The cathedral’s dome dates to 1802, while in the vaulted interior is the grave of the well-known composer Vincenzo Bellini.

Facing the Ionian Sea, this beautiful seaside place is one the hottest Italian cities during the summer. Mount Etna is an active volcano and a nice place for skiing in winter or a trip to the solidified rivers of lava during the rest of the year.

With the busiest airport in Sicily, Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, Catania is easily accessible by numerous European destinations like Munich, Rome and London. You can stay in one of the Catania hotels, guest houses or hostels Booking.com offers.

Catania is the capital of "Dark" baroque immersed in history with a plethora of churches and historical palazzi. The coffee and sweet pastries are second to none. Try a raviola with sweet ricotta baked or fried and your palate will never be the same. Due to over fishing and global warming the variety of the fish displayed at the historical fish market has unfortunately noticeably declined. The administration should consider going the full mile and plan an underground/overground frequent connection from the airport to the city centre (sesticoro metro).

At the first glance, the streets and the buildings seem dark and dirty, but I would say that Catania is just not as photogenic as many other cities. The feeling changes once you get used to the dark (volcanic) stone it was built with; I am from Dalmatia (Croatia) and I am used to the white marble we have so Catania seemed weird and even ugly at first. But give it time! My plan was to use Catania just as a base for my visit to Etna craters (I strongly recommend), so I did not expect anything from the city itself, I stayed for a very short time and missed a chance to visit everything it offers, but I think that was a mistake and that I might come back! Visited both Greek and Roman theatre, had some cannoli. The airport is very close to the city, don't miss visiting gorgeous Taormina while you are in Catania!!! (And far less gorgeous and messy Siracusa and its stunning Greek theatre and Archeological museum).

Catania was a bit surprising, and not in the best way.

Catania was a bit surprising, and not in the best way. Compared to other Italian cities I’ve visited, the city lacks cleanliness and in some places has an unpleasant smell. In many cafés, the waiters speak English poorly, but everything can be worked out. People are friendly. If you choose a good place to stay, you can walk to many spots. There are both paid and free beaches; we chose a paid one for comfort (sunbeds). It’s convenient to travel to Syracuse or Taormina by bus. I would recommend staying for 1–2 days and then continuing to explore other parts of Sicily.

I really liked Catania, although I think I would spend a bit less time there if I visited again. The restaurants and bars are great, and I loved that you can walk to almost everything — the city is very easy to explore on foot. Prices are reasonable as well. One of the highlights was being able to visit Mount Etna from Catania. Just make sure you know the exact protocol in advance, especially regarding bus schedules and buying tickets early enough. With a bit of planning, it’s definitely worth it. Overall, the city is lovely, but I would have preferred to spend more time exploring other places as well. The bus and train connections are excellent, so I never missed having a rental car — in fact, I wouldn’t rent one at all because the public transport works so well.

Majestic and historically unique city of mysterious Sicily!

Majestic and historically unique city of mysterious Sicily! This very city may attract and passel your curiosity with a variety of facades, images, contrasting with a decent locals and something else. City flows with abandon roads of modern and hysterical buildings, mixing with exquisite fashion ateliers and the cutes private souvenirs’s shops. at the same time you can see that there are many baggers in the area together with the street skilled musicians and painters that are trying to just get by day by day. A mixture of feelings, perhaps, what it worth to experience together with a magical Etna and the history that still needs to be revealed.

Even though the area is residential, the location is great, as you are at a short walking distance away from Catania's sights, which is great. During our stay, we were able to comfortably walk to places, and were close to the train station, which is great, even for traveling to the airport. Also, the staff were very kind and accommodating, and my friend found the boutique element of the hotel charming.

It is a perfect located place for people who have an early morning flight. The property is less than 100 meters from Terminal C of Catania Airport. You can’t expect the conditions of a 4 or 5 star branded hotel, but I would recommend it to anyone who wants to stay somewhere quiet and clean near the airport. The bus station that takes you to the city center or the central station is 200 m away.

This was our third stay in Sicily. Given the experience of the other two stays, La Dune was an excellent hotel with friendly staff. Everyone tries very hard to make your stay at the hotel pleasant. Possibility to use the beach at no extra charge, close to restaurants and easy access to the center of Catania. I would stay at the same hotel again.

We were picked up at Catania airport by hotel staff. Easy drop off at hotel and fortunately staff carried our luggage up the three flights of stairs. Similarly, we were collected 7.30am prompt and dropped off at airport. Overall, cheap and convenient for one overnight (late and early flights). Local facilities (pizzeria and cafe) were very good.
