The view outside was awesome. We had a private bathroom and use of a communal kitchen. This is a very remote area and we were grateful for the accommodation.

If you're looking for fancy accommodation with new furniture and lots of space, this may not be suitable for you. However, if you're interested in meeting locals, this is a great opportunity. Some reviews mention the smell of horses in the house, but it's not like the house is filthy; it's most likely just some rugs or shoes in the hall (if you have a dog, they're probably the first thing you smell in your hall). I should mention that our room was clean and odor-free. The kitchen is small, so I wouldn't recommend any big cooking. We spent just one night here. We cooked some pasta, took a hot shower, chatted with the house owner (a nice guy), and got some good sleep - perfect for this purpose.

Grundarfjordur is a convenient town for exploring the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. It has a good grocery store and two excellent cafes for coffee & treats. A little food truck is open until the end of August. We stayed here 4 nights so we would have time to explore and I'm glad we did because one day was too stormy to see sights and another day wasn't optimal.

Destination port for cruise ships, correspondingly temporarily overcrowded. All pilgrimage to Kirkjufell (known from social media), which is accordingly overcrowded. Deterrent example of Icelandic mass tourism. :-(

Definitely not worth the extra drive time, town is not set up for tourists at all, hotel was 350 euros, which was very high compared to all other night on our trip. We spent the same, but had much better accommodations. Much more to do in the other towns

The town/village itself is really quite sweet.
The town/village itself is really quite sweet. We didn't spend much time there, but we did drive in to use the grocery store and walk around a bit. Kirkjufell Mountain is really quite stunning and one of the most recognizable Icelandic landmarks. You can just sit and look at it all day.
For such a small town, Grundarfjordur is packed with loads of hotels, guesthouses, shops and places to eat. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

This small mountain gets a lot of positive press and yes, it's kind of cool but really not all that great. We were trying to find it the last time we were here (three years ago) and drove right past it. There is a parking lot on the left as you are leaving town and you need to park and get out for the mountain to "look" like it looks in the pictures you see everywhere- with the waterfalls, etc.
There are numerous sights around Iceland that make this one look like a joke. Still...stopping for 5 minutes to get a picture or two will be worth it but you won't look back on this one and remember how awesome it was.

A gorgeous setting next to Kirkjufell Mountain!
A gorgeous setting next to Kirkjufell Mountain! It is a very convenient base for exploring the Snaefellsness peninsula. Dont miss the wonderful restaurant, Bjargarsteinn Mathus, where our meal was truly exceptional.
It's a well kept guesthouse with everything you might need for a night or two stay. We found the room a bit small with 2 people and two suitcases but it's manageable.
The common kitchen is well equipped and it's nice that it has a fridge for guests and for the "leftovers" for future guests - we left some there since it was our last night in Iceland.
Location is okay, centrally in the small village of Grundarfjordur - close to shop, cafe and food truck with hot dogs and subs.
This property must be one of the best locations to stay anywhere in Iceland. Although the property looks a little tired from the outside and no longer has a hot tub, the interior was really lovely and well equipped. As a family of five, having four bedrooms was really appreciated. Best of all was sitting in the conservatory and taking in the views. Communication with the host (Eva) was really good and the property offered good value for money given the premium location.
The apartment was clean, comfortable, well stocked and perfect for our group of four travelers. Our host, Johnny, was exceptional. He went out of his way to make sure we were well taken care of. Kirkjjufell Mountain can be seen from the property and is about a 10 minute drive. The waterfall - Kirkjufoss - is well worth a visit and incredibly beautiful with the mountain in the background. We would stay at the Grundarfjordur bed & breakfast again in a heartbeat.
amazing stay in the cottage. view was amazing- ocean view & kirkufell. cork floor in cottage modern kitchen & bath. perfect quiet location close to town. best restaurant in Iceland just down road; Bjargarsteinn Mathús. loved our stay in this gorgeous spot. the klakstjorn hike right x the street is a good 4 mile hike to see the gorgeous landscape is a must do! hostess Marguerite was friendly & helpful! saw the northern lights from here!!!
Very convenient location, only about 10 minutes car drive from Kirkjufell, which made our stay in Dis Cottages even more lovely! Enjoying midnight sunsetting in a total quietness except for bird chirping is Must Have experience if you love peace in isolation. Also managers of the place are very welcoming and stay just nearby.
Perfect location. Just a tiny bit off the beaten track from the little village. Wonderful views of the sea and the mountains. Easily accessible location, contact-free log-in/log-out without any issues at all. Staff was very friendly too. Wonderful spot to share with someone or to fully appreciate Iceland's calm and quiet.
Located 7 mins from the beautiful Kirkjufell and you’re within walking distance to a few good restaurants and bar spots! you can walk along the water for a nice view. the hotel is adorable and provides the perfect amount of space. The owners were so friendly too. Very affordable for the location and amenities.
I was amazed at how cozy and homelike it is! Well, it's a home, after all. But after staying in hostels, it was like a dream. The kitchen is well equipped, the bathroom is spacious (for Iceland) and clean, the beds are comfy and warm, and the property is gorgeous.
Like everything about the property, the host is very nice and kind, the house is clean, cozy, stylish and comfortable, and most importantly, the location and the view is just unbeatable. Hope we can spend more nights there if we have chance to visit Iceland again.
Location was perfect. Very nice apartment, clean and comfortable. Key exchange process was simple.
It was good value for money. View was great and 4 mins walk to nearest grocery store or cafe etc...
Internet worked well as I did work from Iceland in between.
It's easily accessed from the main road and near kirkjufellsfoss, which was great.
Apartment is conveniently located, the open space in front of our apt offers great views of the sea and the cruise ship in a distance.
The kitchenette is well-equipped.
Great property. It was beautiful, spacious and right in town. The hosts were amazing and so accommodating to me and my family. I cannot wait to come back. I highly recommend reserving this space for your next stay in Iceland.
Nice views from the window, good location in the peninsula for roadtrips.
The ONLY room in our 2 week Iceland roadtrip where we slept in pitch black complete darkness: double curtains to cut off the light! Amazing!
The location is just near the Kirkjufell mountain with great view
The apartment was very clean
The host was very kind and she was waiting to check us in and provided some information with very good English
