The Di-Lac is an excellent choice for a place to stay in Gangtok. It has a more traditional Sikkimese home feel about it with a wonderfully friendly and helpful owner and staff - as opposed to commercial accommodations. The Di-Lac is located an ~10 minute, inexpensive, taxi ride above the main shopping and tourist area of Gangtok so one can have the hustle and bustle of the town or visiting local areas, and then retreat to the peace and calm of the Di-Lac perched high on the hillside above the town with the whole of Gangtok below. From your room balcony, the lounge, or dining area a panorama of Gangtok dwellings extends before you - to the left and right stretching out to distant hills beyond which rise the Himalayas, with only the sky above. The rooms are clean, tidy, comfortable and nicely furnished. The bedding is clean, the mattress good, the bed warm and comfortable. Di-Lac breakfast and meals can be taken in the dining area with that panoramic view - or can be taken in your room. Good wholesome food. The owner and staff are delightfully warm, friendly and helpful local people who will look after you during your stay at the Di-Lac, making you feel right at home, and will assist you with all other aspects of your time in Sikkim - arranging tours, booking vehicles, advising places to see and things to do in Gangtok and other places in Sikkim to make your stay at the Di-Lac a truly pleasant and memorable experience.

I’ve spend few days at Shanol and I was recovering after being sick. They took really good care of me, the owner and her family are genuinely kind and everything is made for you to feel good. The room has been the cleaniest and the most comfortable I’ve had in India so far. The food is really good. Perhaps I would previse that the location is above the center which means to walk up and down. It was perfect for me as more quiet. I deeply thank the owner and her family again for their generosity and open heart, I had a wonderful time there.

Outstanding hotel. Stepping through the lobby I was immediately struck by the beautiful and friendly reception area. The staff throughout the hotel were very professional, friendly and extremely helpful. They were always greeting us with a smile. The room was very pleasant, cozy and clean. It was well equipped with all the essentials and had a fantastic view. I have no hesitation recommending this hotel to others who are visiting the area. It was wonderful. The beautiful, quiet location really suited us and the stylish contemporary decoration - made it really comfortable. All the facilities were great. Due to the Northern areas of Sikkim being closed we ended up spending 9 nights here in total and enjoyed the pool, the wonderful treatments from Pubyang in the Spa, the dining end evening entertainment in between our excursions. So many fantastic staff, starting with Kishan the duty manager who I spoke to from the UK. He reassured me that their tour guide could handle the pick up from Bagdogra and arrange a driver for all our planned locations. Their in-house tour manager, Sangay Sherpa was amazing, super efficient and took care of all of our transportation needs. He hired the fabulous Praveen Subba who drove us the entire trip, sharing his extensive knowledge and ensuring that as two women travellers we felt completely safe at all times. He’s a star! So many other wonderful staff especially Mingma who prepared the traditional Sikkimese breakfast for us most mornings and Veronica one of the reception managers. The whole team strove to make sure our experience was the best it could be. We very much hope to return.

This is a great place to stay - walking distance to many sights & great value for money. The roof terrace is wonderful with amazing Kanchenjunga views. The mountain view room was excellent also with amazing views. The shower & basin both had hot water & the bed was really comfortable. The non view room was a bit dark & and dingy, so definitely recommend the mountain view option. The staff are really helpful & accommodating. This is a great choice in Gangtok.
