I recently stayed at Hotel Copper Folia, a property I discovered on Booking.com and chose purely on gut feeling and overall reviews. The moment I stepped in, the hotel exceeded my expectations in many ways. Though it is a small property with just 27 rooms, it offers all the facilities and amenities of a much larger hotel — a major positive surprise. Rooms are spread across three floors, all impeccably maintained. The housekeeping team is proactive, ensuring dustbins are cleared and corridors remain spotless throughout the day. The rooms themselves are tastefully designed, giving a warm, positive vibe the moment you enter. Even with just a one-day stay, I felt it offered complete value for money. The tariff is very reasonable, clearly benchmarked well for its location in Calicut. Breakfast was sumptuous and satisfying. Overall, this has been one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had in recent times. I look forward to returning with my family. The only minor drawback is that it’s slightly away from the city, but this is easily compensated by the clean, pollution-free environment it offers.

Kozhikode is a city that beautifully blends tradition, food, and culture with a touch of modern vibrancy. My stay at The Raviz Kadavu added an unforgettable charm to the trip—nestled by the riverside, it offers the perfect mix of luxury, nature, and Kerala’s warm hospitality. No visit here is complete without a meal at Paragon Restaurant—an institution in itself. Their sumptuous Malabari dishes, from fragrant biryanis to rich curries, are a treat for the senses and live up to every bit of their reputation. An evening at Calicut Beach is equally unmissable. The sea breeze, the golden horizon, and the buzzing café culture along the stretch make it the perfect place to relax, soak in the view, and enjoy a leisurely cup of coffee or a quick snack. The beach can get crowded in the evenings.

The beach can get crowded in the evenings. The traffic snarl is a let down. The food scene is great especially if you are not a strict vegetarian. 'Adaminte chai kada' near the beach is a quaint restaurant with quirky and interesting interior and some great local snack and food.

It's actually a charming city.

It's actually a charming city. Traffic is a little busier than further south. It has a lot of modern shops and cafes and hotels, while retaining older aspects. There is ample greenery, and the Biopark is quite lovely. It's full of birdlife and has good infrastructure (albeit being left to decay). I didn't visit the beach, but there isn't that much to actually DO in Calicut. It's more a place to be. Things are a little spread out but walking is easy. They at least have footpaths! People were nice and friendly and helpful.

Kozhikode is very hot city and our hotel was a haven away...

Kozhikode is very hot city and our hotel was a haven away from the heat and traffic fumes. We use this hotel as a stopover between Wayanad and the backwaters. We have stayed at others but this is the best at a suitable price. It does have an extremely busy BAR but we did not visit and by 11.30 all is quiet.

A good town, great new Mall, and not too frantic.

A good town, great new Mall, and not too frantic. Great Literary Festival in January. We were here for a week but 3-4 days is enough. Alcohol only served in hotels catering for international tourists. Raviz is a good bet. Food is generally amazing here - Paragon (and their coffee bar) always reliable.

I haven’t even seen the property! It doesn’t exist! It’s a scam!!! You book and they start sending you messages and emails with links. They say you won’t pay anything but a certain amount of money would be needed for authorisation. Thank god I didn’t click on anything, as I know that a serious hotel or a home stay would never send me links on WhatsApp. Be aware of such messages! And stay away from these scammers! Make sure you double check properties listed here…not all of them are real, unfortunately.
