FAQs about hotels in Killarney

The Lily of the Lake

Overlooking the tranquil waters of Lough Leane, colourful Killarney is a top Irish tourist destination. The UNESCO-listed Killarney National Park surrounds Muckross House, a stately home sitting in large grounds with a traditional farm.

A tree-lined lane leads to Muckross Abbey, a former Franciscan monastery whose cloisters enclose a tall yew tree. Celtic crosses line the cemetery and beyond is the lake, at the centre of which is a tree-lined outcrop, home of the historic Ross Castle. This 15th-century stone fortress once housed the O’Donoghue clan, one of whom reportedly lives at the bottom of the lough.

More legends envelop the Ring of Kerry – a scenic drive starting from Killarney and supposedly the last place to spot a leprechaun. Gushing Torc waterfall is just one of its fantastic sights.

In Killarney itself, horse-drawn carts roam narrow streets whose Irish pubs offer great nightlife. Impressive St Mary’s Cathedral has a towering spire and somewhat dark interior. The local gaelic football team play at Fitzgerald Stadium, and more sports can be enjoyed at Killarney riding stables and the nearby golf and fishing club. There is also a popular racecourse.

Accommodation in Killarney on Booking.com includes 5-star lakeside hotels, B&Bs near the train station and town centre guest houses. All with that trademark Irish hospitality.

The town is too touristy.

The town is too touristy. The afternoon traffic is absolutely horrendous. I would not stay in the city again. I would try to stay in the surrounding area given how beautiful the Ring of Kerry and the national park is.

Friends recommended to visit Killarney at least once - and that we did. We stayed just one night. We had a beautiful walk around ross castle and the Killarney National Park, but we did not like the city center. The tourists we're shipped in with dozens of busses and we decided to keep of the main roads. We found a lovely bar & restaurant next to St. Mary's called "The lane" with affordable prices and not too full.

Great central point to access all that Killarney has to offer. We would recommend three nights in Killarney. The only reason we had two nights was because we had other accommodation booked in the area totalling 5 nights in the region.

The horse and carriage ride through the National Park was wonderful! The castle tour was great and very informative. The shops were filled with delightful, good-quality items, and the restaurants were excellent. Would love to come back! The Gap of Dunloe was spectacular. The flowers throughout the area were beautiful.

Killarney is such a beautiful place to visit with a wealth of local amenities to chose from . a bus tour of molls gap / the ring of Kerry is beautiful to go on . the house and gardens at muckross house are lovely for a wander . if your feeling more energetic a hike out to Ross Castle around the lake shore or up to Torc Waterfall are brilliant . theres loads of local eateries to cover whatever you fancy and if you get a chance check out the lord of the rings themed bar , the Shire . would really recommend

The hotel is in a good location about 15 minute walk to the town centre. Rooms are large and very comfortable. The beds are particularly large and really give you a good nights sleep. Large bathroom with a good shower. Large television and nice to have tea making facilities in the room. Really enjoyed the Breakfast particularly the face that you can order from a menu with a different special each day. The breakfast staff are fantastic and make you feel right at home. Very impressive

Incredibly charming hotel with great atmosphere and friendly staff. The rooms are very comfortable and the warm breakfast is cooked to order. This is how good hotels used to be. The location is close to the national park and Ross castle. Bicycle rental places are nearby and the town centre and station are walking distance.
