Great History, Greenery and Pubs

Dublin is home to more than a quarter of the entire Republic of Ireland’s population and was originally founded as a Viking settlement. A lot has changed from those Viking days, and Dublin is now famous for its literary history and the most green-spaces of any other European capital, making Dublin a real Irish gem.

Dublin Castle is at the heart of the city's history and Trinity College holds the renowned Book of Kells, a beautifully illustrated manuscript from circa 800 AD. The Ha’penny Bridge is the city’s most photographed landmark and the statue of Molly Malone celebrates the heroine of Dublin’s unofficial anthem.

Dublin is home to many important literary figures including Oscar Wilde, William Yeats, Samuel Beckett and George Bernard Shaw. As the famous location of James Joyce’s “Ulysses”, the city offers tours tracing the protagonist’s footsteps.

Being one of the most youthful European cities, Dublin has a vibrant nightlife scene with the popular Temple Bar area and plenty of bars and pubs, which invite you to stay out until the wee hours of the morning.

Loved Dublin. It has something for everyone. History buffs to small kids. There is something for all interests. Easy city to navigate with plenty of public transportation. Seemed to be a safe place to visit, never felt unsafe. Friendly people also. It was absolutely beautiful with all the Christmas lights and markets

We visited at Christmas, lovely lights, people are very friendly, the bars welcoming, the food good. We went site seeing, so not much shopping. Would have liked a big Christmas market, but the mulled wine was good.

So much to see and do, yes the pubs in Temple Bar area are expensive but the atmosphere is fantastic with such friendly people and great music. We visited the Guinness Storehouse and poured our own pint, we spent 3.5 hours in there, also did the Jameson Distillery tour, I didn't know I liked whisky until I went there. Going at Christmas time is magical as the city lights are fabulous. Very easy to get around on the bus or tram or if the weather's kind it's nice to walk along the river. Don't miss the Brazen Head which is so unusual with lots of little rooms, great food and music. Don't forget to find Molly Malone.

We booked a triple room for a one night stay, the room was very spacious and bathroom clean with a good supply of towels. All staff we came across were so pleasant and helpful and were full of useful knowledge of Dublin and how to get around. We stayed on a Saturday night on the first floor, and there was some street noise - but it’s a city centre hotel in Dublin, we didn’t come for a quiet night 🍻

I liked our stay at Leonardo’s hotel Parnell St, it’s pretty close to everything, so It was easy to walk around Dublin City centre and then make our way back to the hotel. The beds were comfortable enough and the room was impeccable. Breakfast was another great surprise, the food was excellent and we can’t complain about that . All and all, I would stay here again in the future.

Our welcome was not very friendly and the room was very small. Avoid taking a taxi from the airport to the hotel because they will overcharge you. The location was handy to the city centre and we enjoyed Temple Bar area, The Christ Church pub, Molly's Bar 101 Francis St, The Liberties and visiting the Dublinia with the 11am free tour.
