Breaffy House Hotel and Spa, hotel in Castlebar

With a swimming pool and gym, the historic Breaffy House Resort is situated in 101 acres of woodland estate. Located just outside Castlebar, it is less than 5 minutes’ drive from the town centre.

This was our first time staying in the Breaffy House hotel and I can’t speak highly enough of this place. On our arrival we were greeted with such well mannered and respectful staff that catered to our every need in a matter on minutes. The food was absolutely fantastic and the service by the staff in the bar was excellent. We booked the Moet suite and we were blown away by the room. The cleanliness, the layout, the bathroom and bed were just top tier. In the words of my girlfriend “this is the best hotel we have ever stayed in”. We will definitely be back. Thank you to all the staff for making our stay best it could be.

The hosts were friendly and welcoming.

The hosts were friendly and welcoming. Each morning they helped guests find the best routes to the places they planned to visit that day. They had a detailed map book that they used, which was great because the roads in Castlebar are confusing. The room was comfortable and breakfast was delicious. On the previous page, booking gave them a rating of 3/5. I disagree and think it should be higher. I would definitely stay at Carrick House again and recommend it to friends.

I liked the Theatre show I went to was enjoyable. Loved the shops around the hotel not too far to walk. Hotel was nice but few things could be updated for price of rooms. Ate in hotel but I would definitely look for other places to eat if I was going back to Castlebar.

Layout of the town is terrible.

Layout of the town is terrible. Very difficult to find things and drive in for someone who is not familiar with it. Restaurants are adequate; a good variety. Mostly need to be there because of services (solicitor, accountant, etc.). My understanding is that the hospital is not very good.

We as a family spent a long weekend in Castlebar.

We as a family spent a long weekend in Castlebar. A car is not required to get around town. There are many lovely cafes for lunch and we had dinner at Pizza Bros which was very reasonably priced and food was delicious. There are many other lovely restaurants to choose from. The Irish Bar looked great for lunch but due to it's popularity we didn't get to try it. Another great pub - John McHales. Went there on Sunday night and they had live music playing - great atmosphere. We found an Escape Room Experience called INSiDE which is about a 15 minute walk from the centre of town - highly recommend it... we really enjoyed it. We also went bowling and then hired a car and went to Westport for a day. We ate at The Towers Bar & Restaurant. Food was amazing.. We drove along the coast to Bertra Beach with amazing scenery along the way. Could have done with a few more days - great weekend

Castlebar isn't particularly interesting...we only ever use it as a stopover or a base to travel further into mayo and Galway ... Westport Cong, Ashford castle /Achill are accessible and beyond to Connemara if you don't mind driving....

Beautiful place! An old (and charming) but comfortable cottage with everything you need. The location is superb: very central in Mayo: close to Castlebar (for groceries), Newport, Westport, Croagh Patrick and a lot more tourist destinations, but also in a rural setting, in nature (with a few neighbours, so also not too isolated). The kids loved the cows, the tractor, chatting to the farmer and walking in the garden, and also the books and toys in the house.

The house is beautiful & a credit to its owner Mary who greeted us warmly & nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was outstanding. The house is very conveniently situated for Castlebar, Westport & many other places within County Mayo. No hesitation recommending to others & will definitely stay again.

Central to Castlebar town. This is very much a 2 star hotel which they do not hide. Needs a good lick of paint throughout and some modernisation. If you want somewhere to lay your head, have a nice warm shower, and be greeted by nice people, this is perfect .
