After a frazzled couple of days of driving, what surprised us most was the immediate calm we felt upon entering Castle Hackett. The room was big and beautiful, the beds were crisp and comfortable, and the shower was the perfect temperature. The children were delighted with the cows in the adjoining fields. Breakfast the next day was serene with the smell of the turf fire, the gentle lull of Irish music and the perfectly cooked breakfast. Did I mention the beautiful views of rolling fields, the interesting history of the building itself, the library filled with books, comfy chairs and board games or the looped forest walk leading to a castle ruin on your doorstep? Above all the warmth of Joyce and Aidan's hospitality was the highlight of our visit.

Very nice place. The hotel and the pub downstairs are run by great people. Helpful and always nice. Great food. And live music at evenings. Cong is a very interesting place to visit.

Toward the end of our 4-day stay, I decided to self-quarantine myself and cope with a cold while the rest of the family enjoyed the sights and sites in the village. At some point the manager became aware of my status and coordinated with the kitchen to prepare some broth-heavy soup (as the attached tavern did not have any chicken noodle soup on their menu). I also liked the attached bookstore and chatting with Robert, the owner, before buying a few genealogy-related books. Perhaps the highlight of the trip was our encounter with about 10 locals at the next table in the tavern. After volunteering to take a photo of their group celebrating an 80th birthday, they provided me with a few leads in my search for some information regarding my 2g-grandfather in the 1850s. That led me to the Puddleducks Café down the street and a chance to chat with the manager (who connected me to the owner - and his brother - at the Spar station).

A very nice hotel with exceptional staff. Very welcoming. The room was perfect and the bed comfy. It was very quiet. The food in the restaurant was very good. There was ample parking at the front of the hotel.

Not too many spots in the centre of Tuam. This was ideally located within a few mins walk of major pubs etc. Spotlessly clean, a drop of milk in the fridge so you could make a cuppa, the small things matter. Easy to check in with a lock box, so no need to be working around the providers schedule, you can check in when it suits you. Heat was perfect, very warm and we could adjust it not to mention warm and welcoming inside overall. Small details mean alot, hot water bottle on the bed in case you're a cold person and need that bit extra.Bathroom was fully kitted out with shampoos etc in case you forgot anything. Kitchen had all you would need, two ring cooker plus most utensils you'd need to cook if you were in the mood. Would defo recommend and would defo use again if staying in Tuam.
