FAQs about hotels in Zagreb

Great Opening to Croatia

The only capital city in the world with a ski world cup race, Zagreb sits over 120 metres above sea level and boasts typical Central European architecture: cobbled streets, impressive public buildings and well laid out greenery.

Built around two medieval settlements with the Upper Town (Gornji Grad) being its core, the city skilfully combines modern attractions with well-established favourites. Start your day at the Museum of Contemporary Art, then have a stop at the Zagreb Cathedral or make a wish at the Old Town Gate. The locals say it will be granted!

For a more relaxing time, Zagreb features two lakes - Jarun and Bundek - both offering recreational facilities and hosting festivals and events. After having fun in the sun, you might want to hit the shopping at the colourful markets and small boutiques selling local crystal, ceramics and cravats.

To get a different perspective on the city, climb Medvenica, a mountain over 1000 metres tall overlooking Zagreb, and admire the views while sipping famous Croatian wine. And while you’re there, don’t forget to visit the Medvedgrad fortress.

Zagreb Airport is just 17 km and a short bus ride from the city. Whether you’re looking for an elegant hotel, classic apartment or cosy hostel, Booking.com has about 80 accommodation options for you to choose from!

Zagreb is a beautiful city, both historic and modern, and with a very relaxed atmosphere and social scene. It is also notable for some of the most unusual and interesting museums I've encountered and a small, but majestic opera house/theatre with an engaging program. There was a massive restoration program of the city's historic buildings underway when I visited early in 2025 and the city will look stunning when it's finished.

Lovely city and wonderful creative and proud people.

Lovely city and wonderful creative and proud people. The food and wine of Croatia (besides football) is something that would be an injustice to over look or not focus on. There is enough amazing localized food (and home grown produce and meat) which is just out of this world. The rich history of Zagreb is unique to the rest of the country. I recommend for anyone, in any area of interest to find it there and explore. You will be amazed at what you find.

I enjoyed my visit to Zagreb.

I enjoyed my visit to Zagreb. I visited a number of museums in the city. This is a very cultural city with many theatres and cultural activities. It is possible to visit Slovenia, Lake Bled and Ljubljana in a day, which I would recommend, or a visit to the National Park of Plitvice, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (not visited on this occasion). Samobor, a charming little town worth a visit on a train, also in a day. I enjoyed coffees in Dubrovnik Hotel on Jelacic Trg, many cakes in patisseries, walks around the old part of the city, and even watched a handball game at the World Championship. People I met and interacted with spoke in English with me; very helpful if you don't speak Croatian.

Amazing. Was there for 6 nights. Still a little tad short. There is just so much to see and do in Zagreb. People in Zagreb are so super friendly and nice. Take a walking tour, you will not regret it. Tip: Don't bother driving. Just bolt! It's relatively cheap and so much more convenient.

It wasn't very interesting in winter.

It wasn't very interesting in winter. All the historical monuments were being restored, covered with scaffolding. The city seemed dusty, dilapidated, grey, not very beautiful. In addition, it was quite difficult to get to the famous Plitvice Lakes and Krka Park, so plan everything in advance. However, the cuisine is delicious and not very expensive. You should definitely go to the Stari Fijaker restaurant, but you can get there by prior arrangement through their website.

From arrival to checkout all the staff were very helpful, all greeted us with a smile and helped us along with our very small knowledge of the Croatian language. The rooms were very comfortable, clean and of a good size. The food and drink were of a good quality. The location of the Hotel was excellent and had a very grand feeling to it. A very short walk and you could be in the main square, with all the hustle and bustle of a major City Center.
