FAQs about hotels in Split

The Sunny Side of Croatia

Stunning Split stands proudly on the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea, and due to its great climate is called the Mediterranean Flower. It features eclectic architecture, spectacular views and delicious cuisine.

Split is centred around the ancient Roman Palace of the Emperor Diocletian, a magnificent building constructed at the beginning of the 4th century AD and boasting limestone and marble towers, columns and courtyards. It lies in a bay decorated with white sails of yachts, as sailing is definitely Split’s big thing!

The city is full of architectural gems, one of which is St. Duje’s Cathedral, the oldest cathedral in the world, built in 305 AD and combining both Roman and Catholic influences. Nearby Varoš is a must-see, one of the city’s oldest parts, full of charming streets and beautiful houses.

Make sure you visit the Bačvice Beach and the Riva promenade, popular with locals and full of cafés and palm trees. While on the hunt for local specialities, try soparnik - wood-fired dough filled with vegetables - or local soda drinks Pipi and Orela.

So just pack your bags and head to Split Airport! Booking.com has plenty of sunny apartments, friendly guest houses and well-appointed hotels for your Split adventure.

We visited in october was perfect.

We visited in october was perfect. However the most dissapointing thing was Down at the docks of Split salespeople will promise different day tours to certain islands, only to cancel at the last minute so they can fill their own preferred boats and tours. This left many tourists extremely unhappy. Not worth the €500 we paid for a family of four. Feels like a con. Be aware and double-check everything before booking. Overall beutiful city, great time to go not so hot and less touristy.

Be close to the old town.

Be close to the old town. I was pleasantly surprised that it retained its charm and was not over run by tourists. Sure, there were lots. Especially when the cruise ships were in, but the quaintness of the town felt unsullied.

Split was exactly what we were hoping for!

Split was exactly what we were hoping for! A clean vibrant sea side city. We loved the marina, the old town the market!!! And even the quick bus ride north to the beach. We walked up the hill to the park and got an amazing view of the bay and the city, we wished we could have stayed longer but it was the relaxing week we had hoped for at the end of a month long trip.

Shoulder season is best for older travelers who may not be into the beach scene. You can design a trip that fits your budget and the pace is less frantic. Gives you a chance to hang out with real Croatian people, who by nature tend to be pretty easy going.

If you are a history buff split is fantastic for you, the culture is super , people are lovely we stayed in old town at the irini luxury rooms the staff couldn't do enough also fantastic near the roman town centre, and shops of all sizes and tastes, from duck boutique (plastic duck shops ) to high end boutique, ice cream shops ,restaurants for all pockets . also a nice beach not far from the city centre . PS take the little train for sightseeing or the open top bus weather permitting just relax in one of the many restaurants by the harbour and enjoy the ambience and relax

The reality was different than I expected) In mid-August there weren't just a lot of people there - it seemed like I hadn't even left Munich - there were so many of them everywhere! During my trip, the weather was incredibly hot, reaching up to 42 degrees Celsius during the day. The sea water was quite cool, though, so much so that I had to get used to it when I entered the water. I also didn't like that all the beaches except Bacvice had sharp rocks underfoot. Bacvice has a sandy beach, but it is quite dirty. For an umbrella and a sun lounger they will ask you 25 euros, which is very expensive. Public transportation ran on its own schedule, which didn't match Google Maps. So for almost five days, I had to walk to the beach and back to the apartment several times a day, which was incredibly tiring. I liked the old city center—its atmosphere and beautiful promenade. But to see it and take a photo, I had to get up at 5 a.m. Otherwise, it would be difficult to get through due to the huge number of people. So think about it))
