Lovely hotel in gritty, fascinating Santiago which we loved. Small kitchen that you can cook in. Clean pool and nice garden with several spots to chill out and a view from the roof. The hotel looks like it's been extended over the years and I think the new rooms are probably brighter than those on the ground floor. Our room was definitely a little dark, but it was clean and comfortable. Josefa and the women working in the hotel were all lovely. There was lots to see and do in Santiago. Great birding and we saw a quetzal

Great sized room. Good pool and access to the lake. Loved the Temezcal / sauna. Gardens were pretty. Staff super helpful and friendly. Didn't eat at restaurant as we preferred to eat out in town, but they were happy to bring us drinks by the pool. Liked staying in Santiago - the whole freak street traveller vibe in San Pedro wasn't for us. We liked being in a proper Mayan town, near market, restaurants, bars, but lovely to come back to island of peace at Tiosh Abaj. Read some of the less complimentary reviews - sure there is a slight air of fading grandeur about the place but for the price it was great.

The rooms were enormous. We were a group of three people. The staff was very welcoming and guided us to what we can do while we stayed there. They were so nice to allow us to go to the top roof and take a beautiful picture of the volcano and lake Atitlán. It was breathtaking view. We felt very safe on our stay.

Rebeca is very friendly and will help you. Her house is right next to the market and St Maximón. You can easily walk from the boats there. It is very quiet and confortable. I enjoyed the terrasse as well

The owner Alicia was so lovely and kind. She organized a driver for our early Volcano Atitlan hike, and helped us get a cheaper price. Also, gave us good information; how the taxi scooters do not work outside the town. Lastly, my girlfriend left her iPhone in our room at checkout, and once I received wifi again on the other side of the lake, Alicia had kindly tried calling me and messaged me notifying that she had her phone. In our 3 days there she always had a smile and seemed to enjoy laughing a lot.

Incredibly friendly staff. Will help you with anything you need, even when you don't necessarily ask for it. While cooking, we where opening a can of diced tomatoes with a pocket knife, and the lady saw us struggle and gave us a can opener. Little things like that really warmed out hearts. The room itself is nice. On the smaller side, but since there's a big communal area you won't need much space. The kitchen was also nice. They've got pretty much all you should need. Once again it's the communal living room adjacent to it that did it for us. Towels and soap included, and there's a tv in the room (if you'd ever want to use it). Breakfast is 't included, can be ordered. It was tasty and filling, but a little more expensive than elsewhere (we paid 50Q for the biggest plate I believe).

The market is fabulous for fibery things.

The market is fabulous for fibery things. Backstrap looms, cotton weaving yarn, and finished yardage and garments. NOT touristy, hard to find coffee before ten a.m., and very little English-speaking. It's a noisy and bustling center for locals (rural Mayans). The shops and the market are a bonanza if you are a fiber tourist. If you're looking for an idyllic green and quiet oasis on the lake, you need to look to the outskirts of town, or hop on a ferry to one the many smaller, more tourist oriented communities

Clean nice room, staff was really friendly. Not everyone speaks ingles, but they try to communicate.hotel was beautiful with a lot of green and plants.the food in the restaurant was good so you don’t have to look for a place to eat.
