Beautiful room, attention to detail and decor, treats for the guest like bathrobes, slippers, welcoming chocolates etc. The staff was absolutely fantastic, especially Cameron who did our check-in, he went the extra mile to make sure we are comfortable and he also helped us to plan our trip around the city to make the most out of the limited time we had in York. Breakfast was worth the money. Access to parking on the premises was also a win for us. Thank you for a lovely stay!

The rooms were spotlessly clean with everything you would need for a break. The pub has a nice atmosphere and is very comfortable. The food is exceptional, probably the best restaurant meal I've ever had. Large portions cooked to perfection.

It is a truly beautiful place. Everywhere I turned there was a picture calling to be taken. The green grass, the beautiful gardens, trees and flowers, the small pond - everything had an Alice in Wonderlandish feel. It’s far enough from the city to be surrounded by beautiful green fields and close enough that you can get a taxi to ride into the city center when needed. The staff was exceptional, always polite and taking care of every request whether it was a cup of tea in the lawns or suggestions of what to do nearby. The spa was also wonderful - with the heated pool, jacuzzi and steam / sauna, it all added to a relaxing stay

FAQs about hotels in York

England Through The Ages

Although abounding in reminders of the past, York is very much a city for the here and now, with excellent shops, bars and restaurants, many along the River Ouse. Surrounding it are the medieval city walls – the longest and best preserved in England – and many of the gates that once allowed access to the city.

Walk the walls for wonderful views towards the city and towering York Minster. Standing proud on a hill, this cavernous church is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the 2nd highest position in the Church of England.

A little south is The Shambles, a narrow street with medieval buildings that now house quaint shops. Going further back in time is the Jorvik Centre, a fascinating museum showcasing the city’s Viking remains. You can even have a go at archaeology yourself at the DIG excavation pits, with replica finds from York’s Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian eras.

Other York attractions include the National Railway Museum, home to the Flying Scotsman and Mallard trains. Around 30 minutes’ drive away is Castle Howard, a stately home with over 1000 acres of grounds.

Leeds-Bradford Airport is the nearest airport, and there is a great range of hotels, B&Bs and guest houses in York and the outskirts available on Booking.com.

York isn't my favourite city.

York isn't my favourite city. It's always packed and very expensive. However if you've never been before would definitely recommend at least 1 visit as there are some lovely old street, lots of history, good places to eat, independent shops. interesting architecture and a walk around the walls offers great views.

York is a beautiful place to visit in any season.

York is a beautiful place to visit in any season. The streets are busy but manageable. its easy to get around, and if you like walking, you must walk the city walls. beautify the scenery. many quirky restaurants and bars. There are guided tours and ghost walks. They also have a hope on hopeoff bus, but if you have good legs not really necessary.

Lots of sights to see.

Lots of sights to see. Very busy when we went (between Xmas and New Year) making it difficult to navigate and choose a restaurant in the evening. Booking advised. Clifford's Tower was interesting to visit. More inside than we were expecting.

Great for walking. Many excellent restaurants and charming shops. Khaosan Road served delicious authentic Thai food in small plates and Marzano Italian Grill’s pasta was just right. Both places had beautiful cozy interiors.

After speaking briefly with the staff we found out about the history of the building which was fantastic to discover. The staff here couldn't be friendlier or more accommodating. The only suggestion I would have is that they advertise the location a bit more as it was a bit tricky finding the hotel. Other than that, the staff. The vibe. The cleanliness and quality of the rooms. The ease of access to shops and york city centre are all just amazing. I would definitely stay here again
