A wonderful place to visit for culture, sights dining or shopping. We did a mystery tour too on our visit. Who was it who had rifled King Henry VIII’s Golden Tankard ? An intriguing five hundred year old mystery that our intrepid team of sleuths set out to solve, with a set of clues, while exploring the historical sights of Winchester; including a few fine ale houses, I might add ! What a cracking day out. Highly entertaining and great fun in equal measure.

Winchester is a lovely city and we enjoyed long walks around the city enjoying the sites and the buzz of the city! It was very busy but that was great for us and everyone seemed very friendly. I actually loved the city and we have organised another visit in two weeks time which I am really looking forward to! On Sunday we had lunch at The Chesil Rectory which I'd highly recommend! The food, atmosphere and staff were all 5*. Food and atmosphere at The Old Vine was also top notch and I would also highly recommend staying there too. A great position and lovely pub hotel with great staff. Lots of pubs scattered around and a visit to The Black Boy is a must, so quirky!

If you are visiting for food and shopping stick to the main high street. If you want history and nature be sure to wander to the cathedral, and beyond to the College and the river path, the water meadows, and the Great Hall. The side streets are beautiful.

Winchester’s history, the Cathedral has to be right up there, it was incredible and would definitely go back, there were some beautiful walks nearby, along the river Itchen, and very clean. It’s very easy getting around, the train station is minutes away( 7 minutes to the airport 😉) So many pkaces to eat, The Vine did an amazing veggie breakfast and loved the Royal Oak pub, oldest in England.

We had a one night stay in March '25 and are very happy. The Loft is comfortable, spacious and well equipped, Just a few minutes walk from the town centre, and at the time we booked it was better value than the local hotels. Luckily we got to park right outside the front door. We will definitely look again next time we need to stay in Winchester.

A very cosy, friendly country hotel, comfortable, while not luxurious, just what we expected from an English village tavern. The food was very good, and the staff really friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again when visiting Winchester, and easier to park than in town.
