Wells is a beautiful city which has retained its character and is not too tourist focused. The Cathedral is fabulous. The facade is amazing and we thought our view of the Cathedral from The Swan Hotel was one of the best we have ever seen. We went to choral Evensong in the Cathedral. It could not have been better! I want to come again.

A quiet, but very quaint place. Lots of lovely shops, particularly the art shop next to the hotel. The cathedral is magnificent, and well worth a visit, and the walk alongside the river is very picturesque. I will definitely visit again some time.

WE were apprehensive about parking on a busy market day but actually found it easy to park in a car park close to the centre. The cathedral, Bishop's Palace, the High Street and the market are all convenient and a must on any agenda.

I used to live in Wells so I am biased.

I used to live in Wells so I am biased. It is a small city with a big heart. Every tiny street, every archway, every corner you turn brings you another delight for the eyes. It has high street shops, and artisanal crafts. Eateries and pubs to cater for many tastes. And whether you are driving or using public transport, there are so many historical places to see in Wells and the surrounding countryside. And if you are a fan of the ”Hot Fuzz” film, you can recognise locations. It is easy to walk anywhere, and even easier to hop on a bus to Glastonbury for a totally different vibe. Promise yourself you will visit Wells. Your future self will love you for it. 😁🌻🐝

Wells is a lovely place to visit and steeped in history.

Wells is a lovely place to visit and steeped in history. The Cathedral is the focal point but I thought the admission fee was too high compared to other cathedrals. The city has ambassadors during the summer to assist tourists. There are lots of nice food outlets and shops. Wells is close to other attractions in Somerset; Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole, Glastonbury etc.

We're reviewing this as backpackers walking The Monarch's Way, which passes through Wells. What a lovely place, just opposite the Cathedral. The food in the evening was wonderful (great waiter, a Kingstanding man!) and the breakfast outstanding. Staff were kind, friendly and welcoming. Our room was large with a lovely bathroom. There's a beer garden across the road from the hotel (owned by the hotel) were you can sit and look at the Cathedral grounds. A lovely one night stay. Thanks to everyone.

This hotel is a jewel. Located in the heart of Wells, overlooking the market, the cathedral, and the gate to the Bishop's palace, it is one of the nicest historical places we have stayed. Image to stay in a room that has been a hotel room for almost 600 years. The room was very nice with a seat in the window. There was limited free parking at the back of the hotel. Breakfast was great.

The location is brilliant for a visit to Wells. We wanted somewhere to stay for the carnival and it was perfect for us. The hotel was warm, felt safe, and was quiet away from the pub area. The staff were all lovely, enthusiastic and made us feel welcome and were helpful. Stairs to rooms 1-7 weren't steep which ,having read other reviews , I was concerned about.

The location is fantastic right next to the cathedral and part of the surrounding buildings. The hotel feels authentic and fitting for a visit to Wells. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. You can check in quite early which is good (2pm) and yet you don’t have to check out until 11. Both of these aspects suited us. Breakfast was lovely.
