It's a great little place, just a short walk from the Ferry terminal. Their restaurant is closed on Sunday and Monday but there was a complimentary bowl of fruit which was a nice touch. I liked that there was a "residents lounge" which, had I stayed more than one night, I would have definitely used it more. It was quiet, comfortable and a safe place to leave my luggage after checking out for the daytime before I got my bus.

Christina came to meet us at the door and was so gracious and welcoming. The whole team there took such good care of us and made a difficult trip (bereavement) much more bareable. The room was so comfortable and decorated beautifully. There's a fully accessible bathroom and lift too which is great and the bed is perfect. The castle has been restored so well and looks gorgeous inside and out. Really recommend having a walk around the castle grounds while you're staying too. The café staff were super friendly and took our drinks to the guest lounge for us when we had family visiting. The food is really nice and they make good hot drinks and the tablet they sell is delicious. They will try their best to help you. We even got invited to watch a fashion show which was cool. Really can't recommend this place enough and we'll definitely stay again next time we're on the island. Everyone clearly loves what they're doing and it really shows. Plus, it's a castle! What's not to like?

Stornoway is a busy wee town full of independent shops.

Stornoway is a busy wee town full of independent shops. I particularly like An Taigh Ceilidh where you are encouraged to practise your Gàidhlig. Only downside there are a few one-way streets which are confusing / frustrating if you don't know where you're going.

There’s not much to see and do in Stornoway but it is an...

There’s not much to see and do in Stornoway but it is an excellent base for exploring Lewis and Harris. It was easy to reach the main tourist spots of Ness, Callanish, Carloway and Gearrannan Blackhouse Village. Also not far to experience the stunning scenery of Harris including the famous Luskentyre Beach. In Stornoway itself, the walk to the Iolaire Monument and the visit to the Lewis Castle Museum were both worth doing. The best place for lunch was Lantair.

Stornoway is an interesting little town with Lews castle and grounds well worth a visit. It is a very good starting point to explore some of the island-places to visit include Callanish standing stones,the Black House,the Black House village and the broch,all of which are on the one road that leads directly out of Stornoway. There is also Harris to visit and famous and stunning beaches,but we ran out of time !

Stornoway is a compact town, with good local pubs and restaurants. Lews Castle and its grounds and museum is well worth a visit. I also went to a folk music concert at the An Lanntair theatre which was excellent (I also enjoyed a pre- show meal there in its Thai Cafe). The whole island of Lewis & Harris is stunning and magical.

Stunning part of the world.

Stunning part of the world. So much more to see than we had time for, a week would have been amazing! Beckett's do a fab breakfast, not many other places open before 9am. Some fab wee gift shops, especially enjoyed the Art Gallery, The Christian Bookshop, The Baltic Bookshop, Hebridean Tweed and Delights.

I have stayed in the hotel several times for work reasons connected to family - the refurbished rooms are lovely, a good size, very comfortable with tweed furnishings and modern, well-designed bathrooms. Initially I was given one of the older rooms but the kind receptionist swopped for one of the newer rooms I had on my last visit - this made a big difference as the view was pleasant and the room light and airy. There is a good choice of cooked breakfast and the staff are pleasant. It is expensive but choice in Stornoway is limited.

We had a very nice stay for two nights at Royal Hotel! When calling the receptionist and telling that we would arrive late she arranged with the staff in the restaurant so they stayed overtime to serve a delicious meal. The restaurant served us very good cooked breakfasts as well as dinners. The housekeeper Bertie was very helpful taking care of our laundry. We visited Stornoway for Hebcelt Festival with our dog and we couldn’t have asked for better accommodation or hosts. Charles and Ginny were so welcoming and friendly and made us feel right at home as soon as we arrived. The accommodation was comfortable and well stocked with everything you might need for a weekend away, including some local treats provided by our hosts.

My partner and I had a wonderful stay at Lews Castle. Christina was very attentive and personable as so was Matt and Tyler from the cafe/bar. I would highly recommend those who wish to travel to Stornoway to stay at Lews castle as it is truly a lovely experience. The hotel was kept beautifully and is in a great location
