Wow! What a fantastic B&B! The furnishings and decor were top notch, super comfy beds, and the garden patio area was absolutely gorgeous! Alan was a superb host - we enjoyed our visit with him very much! He recommended a great Indian restaurant that was a short walk away, and the food there was delicious! Alan had a wonderful breakfast in the morning for us. Overall we were delighted with our stay. We wished we could have stayed for another night!

The apartment was immaculately presented and very clean. The bed was really comfortable and the bathroom was lovely with plenty of hot water. Location was very quiet and peaceful with the added bonus of a patio to sit out on with beautiful views over the garden and beyond. Communication was excellent and check-in super easy. Alan showed us to our room and made us a pot of tea with cake and sat with us in the garden, great service. Alan is an excellent host with a friendly, professional manner with great local knowledge. The accommodation is very comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. Exceptional breakfast was plentiful and delicious with great choice. The property has a beautiful, quiet garden with tables and chairs to relax in. Would definitely stay again. Well done Alan and thank you for your making us feel so welcome.

We only came because we were going to a funeral, shepton...

We only came because we were going to a funeral, shepton doesn't really have lots of pubs/restaurants to go to, the bar at the shrubbery and the club were the best.,it's difficult to get taxis,does have Interesting buildings to visit church/prison.

Apart from using the B&B at Maplestone as a base for a two...

Apart from using the B&B at Maplestone as a base for a two day visit to Longleat, we didn't really explore anywhere else other than visiting two local pubs to have our evening meals i.e the Mendip Inn (twice) and the Thatched Cottage - the food in both was extremely good and the staff in both places couldn't have been more helpful.

Shepton Mallet has some lovely old buildings and much to see...

Shepton Mallet has some lovely old buildings and much to see of interest in the area. Not much in the way of nightlife but we weren't looking for that anyway. Some of the shops /pubs are sadly empty but that seems to be happening everywhere these days.

The town is nice enough but starting to look a bit run down.

The town is nice enough but starting to look a bit run down. Collet park is nice just off the centre. It feels safe, family friendly. It is very convenient for access to Wells and the palace and Cathedral, East Somerset Railway is great. The prison is worth a visit. It gives you a picture of life through prisons of the 1600's through to second world war executions.

Tired old hotel with rooms with peeling paint, broken cupboards and windows and dirty curtains. Had to go up 4 flights of stairs to get to attic room that was being used by the construction staff renovating the spa. Food was limited choice and of porr quality for the money that was being asked and charged. No phone in the room so had to climb up and down 4 flights of stairs to get any service. Issues not addressed and had to check out early, extremely poor hospitality. Do not tale bookings if you cannot provide a basic level of service.

Friendly landlady and staff that went above and beyond for every customer. Room was clean and comfortable and en suite was good size with shower. The locals who frequent the inn/bar were so friendly and funny had us laughing and treated us like we were part of the community including the friendly micky taking. I will go back again and would highly recommend! The prices of food and drink was very reasonable as well. Very close to the Bath and West Showgrounds and on outskirts of Shepton Mallet so great location.

I really liked The Thatched Cottage. We received a very warm welcome from Kevin. The room was spacious and beautiful. The breakfast was delicious, I got the best porridge ever. We found out that the hotel is under a new management and the new team has been running it for two months only. I am sure that they would try to do their best to make more improvements. It will be nice to return here again. We wish all the best to the hotel's team. Thanks a lot for your hospitality.

A lovely place nicely done very clean and quiet. I had the best nights sleep better that most hotels very comfy. It has all you need and not far from some nice places to eat like the Strode Arms. In addition, please ignore the one bad review given. It is not true and misleading. This place is great and WiFi works well. Garden area also clean and nice.
