Excellent bed and bathroom. The storage facility was poor, a few hangers but not in a closet. Virtually no drawer space. I had a large suitcase and this could only be stored vertically. Clothes such as socks jumpers shirts had virtually nowhere to be stored. It was OK for me as a singleton but for a couple staying 6 days it is not adequate. Breakfast good served efficiently.

This hotel was exceptional and of a very high standard from staff, meals, security, noise, cleanliness and room. Been travelling for three months and this was the first time we had a good nights sleep and we’re comfortable. Meals were great and plenty to choose from. The pub was very busy so obviously a well liked local. The vibe was buzzing and people were lovely to talk too. We love our stay here and would have loved to stay longer.

We stayed one night after arriving in the UK by car ferry. The hotel is close to the port. Checkin was efficient and the parking was only 5 pounds. The room was quiet and comfortable. Iron and hair dryer were provided as well. The breakfast is absolutely wonderful. There were options for everyone from the eggs and sausage crowd to the organic granola and oatmeal people.

FAQs about hotels in Portsmouth

Royal Dockyard of the British Isles

An important harbour for centuries, Portsmouth counts with one of the busiest ferry piers in the United Kingdom, has the oldest dry dock still in use in the world. Its Historic Dockyard is home to famous British ships like Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and the HMS Warrior.

In the picturesque Old Town you’ll find typical English pubs, coloured houses, and small independent shops. It also has a Fish Market provided by the city’s small fishing fleet. In Old Portsmouth is possible to find smaller hotels, B&B’s and guest houses, some of them not far from the ferry harbour.

The Gunwharf Quays are a modernly renovated shopping area, home to the Spinnaker Tower, while the centre has an ever-growing number of shops. Don’t miss Commercial Road and the Cascades Shopping Centre. Hotels in Portsmouth’s city centre allow you to be close to everything what the city has to offer.

For relaxing moments, Portsdown Hill allows panoramic views over the city and the Isle of Wight. During summer, its sandy beaches are a must.

The Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is too expensive.

The Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is too expensive. They need to look at individual pricing for the exhibit entrance costs. There is only the one ticket which covers a year and doesnt help if you are onle visitng for one or two days. We travelled in November and the foot fall was very low.

The road system is difficult to navigate without electronic assistance ,a few areas look a limited tired and dated. The park where the war memorial stands has 2 excellent small cafes, what was the former tennis club have a delicious range of snacks and small meals and is also dog friendly. Not the most cost friendly but the service and quality of the food was excellent. Washroom facilities very good. Seating was comfortable and laid out to give welcoming atmosphere. Generally I would give this a solid 8.5 the only downside as the food was cooked to order a little longer than expected wait for the food

Pompy has something for everyone. There's history at the dockyards and in old Portsmouth. There are modern shopping centres. There are beaches. Transport links are very good (hovercraft and ferry to Isle of Wight and Europe).

We came to visit the RN Dockyard.

We came to visit the RN Dockyard. We spent 3 days of the trip at various exhibits...submarine museum, Mary Rose, HMS Warrior and M33. Could have spent another day potentially. We also went to the South Downs around Chichester for a walk - about a 25 minute drive. Some nice pubs around Old Portsmouth and Southsea and interesting seafront walks.

The old port with Ss Victory and the Mary Rose was awesome.

The old port with Ss Victory and the Mary Rose was awesome. We had been told it was not worth a visit. Should have been compulsory ! The restaurant on the edge of the port was stunning. ( Wild and ?? ´Fraud I can’t remember all the name ) The ferry boats almost came into the dining room.
