Northampton is one of England’s largest towns and has appeared in writing since the 10th century. The large medieval market square has an array of stalls 5 days a week, and nearby are the Market Walk and Grosvenor shopping centres. A larger retail and entertainment site is out of the town centre near Sixfields Stadium, home of Northampton Town FC. The Northampton Saints rugby union team play nearby, and Silverstone is south-west of the M1.
To the east is Billing Aquadrome, a marina complex with go karting, minigolf and a miniature railway. A smaller marina is along the River Nene in Becket’s Park, overlooked by 78 Derngate, a Grade II-listed house redesigned by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
Other notable buildings are the Guildhall and colonnaded All Saints Church. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre dates to 1100 and is one of England’s largest round churches.
On the outskirts of town, by one of several golf courses, is Delapre Abbey, and to the north are other historic mansions of Coton Manor, Cottesbrooke Hall and the most famous of them all - Althorp House, the final resting place of Princess Diana.

Northampton is a bit faded with some hidden gems in the historical quarter like the Museum with a large room dedicated to the local Shoe making industry . The Rennie Mackintosh house in Derngate is well worth a visit . It also has a nice cafe attached which sells excellebt cream teas. Also recommend the cafe in the Church in the main square, the Northants Club nearby and the independent cafe nearby in Gold Street

It sounds like you're in a peaceful place with a lot of green spaces and great food options! It's nice to hear that there are Indian restaurants around too—do you have a favorite dish you like to enjoy from them?

Quite a desolate inhuman place on the whole, with a feeling of unfriendliness and lack of thought for pedestrians. Walking along by the river is pleasant. In the town you feel penned in by the high buildings and have little sense of there being any end to them.
The shops are surprisingly limited in vegan and vegetarian foods, yet there are some lovely vegan eateries if you look on Happy Cow. Karmana at 79 Broadmead Avenue was truely special, and well worth getting a little out of town for. There's free parking outside, and public transport I think.

Didn't see anything of Northampton.
Didn't see anything of Northampton. Were here purely to do a family pre Christmas visit so can't comment. Haven't lived here for nearly 9 years and I know a great deal of things have changed but that is not unique to the town.

Excellent and spacious apartment with great decor throughout and a real homely/cosy feel. Comfortable sofa and bed. Very nice kitchen area. Good location for the town centre. The owner is very helpful and responsive to all queries. The hot water stopped working whilst I was staying and it was fixed the next day.
The two best things about this hotel was its staff who were helpful especially when my card stopped working and had to get a new one. The location of the hotel was very good very close to the town centre and railway station.
Michael and his brother did an excellent job of looking after us....helpful and a great breakfast. For the cost, a great place to stop. Convenient hotel, only a short walk to the town centre.
Staff were excellent. Loved the super king bed! Ideal location for town centre. Breakfast was good. Hotel has its own car park but payment is required on check in.
