Very friendly, helpful and competent staff. Clean room where everything worked properly. Comfortable bed. Excellent soundproofing. Very good breakfast: even though I visited the buffet shortly before it closed, everything was still fresh and available. Excellent location. I was visiting a patient at the RVI (hospital). The hotel is directly on the 15 minute walking route from the station to the hospital. (The football stadium is also on the same route, less than10 minutes walk from the hotel.)

FAQs about hotels in Newcastle upon Tyne

The Spirit of the North

A former Industrial Revolution hub, Newcastle has reinvented itself into a vibrant, forward-thinking city. Although no longer brewed here, Newcastle Brown Ale, or Newkie Brown, is synonymous with the city, so it’s no surprise that the nightlife is fantastic.

From the O2 Academy to the Sage Music Centre, the Newcastle music venues are among the best in England. The city also has a thriving arts scene, including The Biscuit Factory – Britain’s largest original art store.

Equally as good is the Newcastle shopping. The Central Arcade is in an attractive Victorian building, and across the River Tyne in Gateshead is the Metro Centre, Europe’s largest shopping and leisure complex. Indeed, these 2 cities have a healthy rivalry that plays out in sport, architecture and, sometimes, the bizarre.

Gateshead boasts the Angel of The North, a huge statue that is already its most recognised (and controversial) symbol. While in Newcastle the Vampire Rabbit sits above a door near St Nicholas’ Cathedral. Newcastle United Football Club has the most prestigious record, but Gateshead Stadium has seen many a star compete at its international athletics meets.

To the west of the city are some remains of Hadrian’s Wall and further north is Newcastle Airport. See Booking.com for a range of accommodation all over this happening city.

Great people and a really positve vibe to the Quayside. The venues we visited were busy, but no impact on customer service. Dood restuarant was outstanding, as was The Bridge Tavern. Already planning our next trip

Newcastle City centre wasn't as big as I expected.

Newcastle City centre wasn't as big as I expected. I'd recommend a trip to the shopping centre though. Don't get me wrong it seemed a nice place with nice restaurants we visited for dinner during our 2 night stay. We dined at Rio Brazillian Restaurant and Uno's Trattoria. There's some nice cafe's to eat breakfast at too in the centre. We visited Blakes and Quay Ingredient. In addition, the Christmas market seemed a bit scarce with not many stalls. If I had thought about it we could have visited the centre on the day we arrived and spent the full day we had there on a trip to Beamish living museum via the bus. We stayed at the Hotel Du Vin which I would recommend for a comfortable stay in Newcastle.

Lots of good shops, department stores and the odd market. Tescos was close at hand. Northumberand Street is having a good makeover. Parts were rundown and neglected. The city council could do more to improve and make parts more respectable.

Great location and opposite Newcastle Central station and a couple of minutes walk from the coach station and few steps from Central station Metro. Great selection of bars and restaurants within a short walking distance. Less than a 10 minute walk from the city centre. The hotel was clean and well presented. The staff were friendly and helpful when I checked in. The rooms were a good size and had all you needed for one or two night stay. Comfy bed. It was a good value stay for me and would happily stay there again.

Let me start by saying I enjoyed my time at the Royal Station Hotel and I would stay there again, however a few things did make me frown at times. It's a great location for anywhere central in Newcastle. Beds were comfortable but feel it's a lucky draw on the rooms. My room was a twin at the front of the hotel and was massive, my friends room a twin at the back, just fit the beds in, it was that small.
