A quaint and beautifully decorated cottage with such thoughtful finishing touches and colour schemes. We had a very comfy stay on a rainy night, the place warmed up very quickly with heaters. The kitchen was wonderfully equipped and we enjoyed the fresh eggs. We loved the privacy most, having purchased ingredients to make dinner in the local Co op just up the road, we made dinner and breakfast and liked being somewhere so peaceful. We would definitely stay again, using it as a good stop off point between Blackpool and Sutherland. Would love to know what colour blue the kitchen was painted, inspiration for home? Thank you Neil and Kathryn for being perfect hosts and we will be back in the future.

Such a lovely traditional Scottish town with great little local and varied businesses. A friendly town for dogs and people. Beautiful countryside on the doorstep with some great dog walking areas on the doorstep. We loved it so much we’d like to move there!

Moffat is a good location for exploring the town and surrounding area. Plenty of eating places and wee shops to wander the high street. Walks, cycling, golf and fishing near. Playparks for children. Can get bus to Hamilton or Glasgow or head south. train station nearby goes to Edinburgh. Lots of accommodation options.

It's a pretty country town, once a spa, set in deeply rural Southern Uplands, with good hill-walking a few miles away. There are a variety of shops, mainly local, some touristy. It's a good base for exploring a relatively unfrequented part of Scotland.

We only had chance for a short walk around the town but what we did see looked good, bars, shops restaurants etc. It was easy to walk into Moffat from the guest house and is within easy reach of main roads leading to other towns.

Chose Moffat as a mid point stay on our from the East of...

Chose Moffat as a mid point stay on our from the East of England to the Isle of Skye and it was a perfect location. Moffat has a good mix of shops and pubs, we ate at the bull which was very nice. The surrounding country side is dramtic and forms a great back drop.

Moffat is a lovely town.

Moffat is a lovely town. We broke our journey from Inverness with an overnight stay there. It is a short distance from the main A74, there is ample free parking and the town has lots of hotels and eateries. Perfect.

What can I say really? If you're a biker (or even if you're not!) and Moffat is on your route there is no other place to stay. The staff were incredibly welcoming and engaging. A very efficiently run hotel and exceptional service. After a long days riding these are all things you can hope for. The bike-specific facilities were five star and the general atmosphere of the hotel was really nice. The map room was a great surprise - never seen anything like it. Will be visiting again.

myself and two friends arrived at the hotel Saturday afternoon and received a lovely warm welcome from the lady behind the bar when we checked in, she found our bookings, allocated our rooms, we booked breakfast and then went off to shower and meet up with some other friends we had travelled with. this is the first time i have stayed at the Star hotel despite staying in Moffat many times, i will be booking again to stay here.

The location was just right, perfect for on route to Scotland. Moffat was a great place for a stop over. The hotel was better than anticipated. It was lovingly updated and everything was just right! Breakfast was delicious ( we both had the Scottish breakfast) Staff were very helpful and friendly.
