Hay was one of our favourite places My husband is an avid book reader, collector. In past years he usually found what he would call a little bit of treasure from one of the many bookshops but he was disappointed at how expensive the books were. The town is still delightful and pleasurable to walk around.

As expected there were a great many book shops.

As expected there were a great many book shops. Also some attractive gift type shops and being a Saturday an interesting craft market. Lots of eateries but staying at the Old Black Lion we didn’t need to use them. Very best being a bank holiday weekend

This is a gem of a town even if you don't like books! The countryside is beautiful with lots of places to go for country walks. Great pubs and cafes. Not sure if I would bother with the castle tour.. though glad they bothered to restore it!

A great property clean and modern, well equipped and great location. Sleeps five. we previously stayed in hay on wye in band b which was very scruffy. This property was 100% better. If you don’t cook there are great cafes a very short walk away. We will recommend this property to friends

Hay is lovely for the second-hand bookshop afficionado and also set in beautiful surroundings with fantastic walks along the river Wye. During the book festival it can be crowded, and difficult to find accommodation. Be warned you need to book well in advance. If camping suits you, Racquety farm is excellent and not too far from town. Some good pubs and restaurants: the three tuns, excellent value for money and the blue boar, more pricey but good garden

What a find!! A cosy three floor cottage just down the street from Hay Castle. This home way from home has lots of rooms to spread out, a well equipped kitchen, great hot water, good wifi, and a rear garden. Our bikes were easily accommodated in the downstaris lobby and our check-in was easy - the emailed code for the lockbox worked fine. The location couldn't be more central and there's a SPAR store right next door. We stayed two nights and could easily have stayed the week.

The staff and breakfast were fantastic, the location was just perfect for a bimble around Hay-on-Wye and a short walk along the river to the cemetery where my grandparents are and the Warren without using the car, the swimming pool was the perfect temperature and lovely and clean, totally dog friendly and they even got a sausage each for breakfast, will definitely be back.

Wonderful location just outside Hay on Wye, with the most stupendous view over the Wye valley from the hut. The hut is within a safe and enclosed field, which was fantastic for our dog. Well equipped with two burners, fridge, sink etc. so that you can cook for yourself if needed (no oven), great bathroom. Lovely outdoors space.
