Folkestone is an old town with old buildings.

Folkestone is an old town with old buildings. The old high street is well worth a visit but is better for more mobile people because it has a steep slope and cobbled road. There is a sandy beach - Sunny Sands, and a much larger shingle beach too. The town has good road and rail links to London and the surrounding areas. The countryside is very scenic and enjoyable. It is only about a 30 minute drive to Dover and the ferry port. There are plenty of places to visit from miniature steam railways to cathedrals and castles, along with some lovely beaches.

Folkestone used to be a beautiful place, and still is in some parts. I can see where some investment is going and it was great to see some of the old buildings still standing but so many shops have shut down and replaced with new which what sad to see because the old shops was the best especially down the old cobbly high street.

We visited Capel le Ferne the Battle of Britain Memorial on the 104 bus route. We explored the harbour and walked right to the end where the small lighthouse bar is (not open as weather was a bit stormy). We visited St. Peter's Church where husband's parents were married. Went around the town exploring shops. We walked up the zig zag path on the L:eas and spent the day at the Annual Train Fair in the theatre overlooking the sea. Looking forward to returning when the Road of Remembrance is re-opened (disappointed it is still closed) and the cliff tram - hurry up and get it started again! Please don't build flats on the sea front - keep Folkestone sea front beautiful as it always has been. Congratulations on the restoration of the old platform on the harbour - it looks great and the small railway carriages serving food in summer. Looking forward to coming back for all the improvemnets!

Folkestone has retained much of its old world charm.

Folkestone has retained much of its old world charm. It is a very old town with a lot of interesting history, from smuggling to being a main port for departure and arrival from France for many years. It is surrounded by gently rolling hills and is only about a 45 minute drive to Canterbury. Folkestone's main shopping street has many small shops as well as a Sainsbury, Asda and Lidl store all close by. The old high street is very picturesque with a steep slope and a cobbled road. Folkestone harbour is a good place to visit and there is both a sandy beach and shingle beaches.

We booked an overnight stay as we have stayed at the hotel before several times and found that it’s a good central location for the harbour etc. the buffet was disappointing. It was much better the previous time we stayed. The food was not enjoyable. We enjoyed the evening entertainment, so we will return and skip the buffet dinner.

Great location, near to Folkestone central train station and the harbour and also right next to the coastal park which was absolutely gorgeous. The hotel room was very nicely furnished and the refreshments and welcome cake was a really nice bonus! Raj who checked us in, was working very hard - we hope he is appreciated by the hotel owner as he was a real asset to the business. He was polite and super friendly.

The hotel is easy to find, with a great view out to sea. Off road parking in their large car park was also a plus, and it is only a short walk from the Old High Street with its bars and restaurants. We had an outstanding fish and chips in Folkestone's oldest pub, the British Lion. The hotel has a wide range of entertainment most nights, but the rooms are quiet, and we slept well.

It's very good value, and for people like me, just want something clean and cheap. It was clean and it was cheap. Restaurant was fine. Hotel noise level is acceptable. Always depends on other guests, but generally it's pretty good for me. Staff are very friendly. And folkestone itself is a lovely place to stay.
