FAQs about hotels in Edinburgh

A Feast for the Senses

A city of heritage, heart and of course Hogmanay, Scotland’s capital is vibrant and edgy. Whether or not you come for one of its many festivals, Edinburgh is quite simply a feast for the senses.

The wealth of Edinburgh sights ranges from Holyrood Palace to the Botanical Gardens, Princes Street to the Royal Mile. Overseeing them all is majestic Edinburgh Castle. Be there at sunset on a clear day to see the city below bathed in a warm, orange glow. Simply stunning.

Wandering the streets, the smell of fish and chips wafts by, with the unique twist of salt ‘n’ sauce – a must-try variation on this favourite dish. Follow it up with a smooth whisky and you’ll start to feel like a local.

For a taste of Scottish culture, a kilt-wearing busker often plays the bagpipes on Waverley Bridge, while traditional folk music can be heard in some Old Town pubs. Complete your stay with a rugby match at Murrayfield or a round at one of the city’s 14 golf clubs, and you’ll have the true Edinburgh experience.

Whether you are looking for hotels near Edinburgh Airport or accommodations in the city center, Booking.com has a great range to choose from.

An amazing, historically significant city with so much to see and do. I was only there for two nights, but in hindsight three would have been perfect. The Christmas markets were great, as were the illuminations (if you’re into that sort of thing), so I’d definitely recommend it as a Christmas destination.

Edinburgh is a lovely, walkable city.

Edinburgh is a lovely, walkable city. There are steep inclines, so be prepared for that. Castle of Lights in the evening at Edinburgh Castle was a wonderful experience, but you have to return during the day to visit the exhibits of the castle. I definitely recommend doing both. Walking the Royal Mile is an experience, and easy to find souvenirs if needed. I highly recommend lunch at The Witchery and order the scallops. It was my favorite dining experience there. The holiday market was fun, and I had a yummy luxury hot chocolate to keep me warm. I did make the street party for Hogmanay, but the East entrance was chaotic. I heard some of the other entrances weren't. It was very crowded once inside, so I'm not sure I'd do it again, but maybe. The firework display was spectacular, and I enjoyed it so much. Hollyrood Palace was an educational experience, and walking across the city was interesting. The Chocolatarium was my favorite experience in Edinburgh, and I highly recommend it. I did one day trip to The Highlands. I know some think it's not worth it because of so much time on the bus, but I quite enjoyed the trip views as we made our way to each stop.

Fun, walkable city. Tons to do for all ages. Great food and atmosphere. Amazing people, plenty of nature hikes close to the city and beautiful views. Lots of museums. Easy access to other attractions using public transportation. Trains and buses are pretty reliable. Tip: dress in layers and wear comfortable shoes with a good grip.

It is very busy, but has exceptional medieval and Georgian architecture and is very walkable for a visitor. Being a Capital city also means there are excellent museums and other historic attractions. The Royal Yacht tour is superb.

Great city/ walkable but good bus/ tram services.

Great city/ walkable but good bus/ tram services. The Christmas markets were fabulous & easy to access. The main shopping mall had all the shops you needed but other streets had great independent retailers. We found a great Italian restaurant in the centre too 👍

I like this place - the staff are really helpful and it is a comfortable, clean and affordable place to stay near to the city centre where hotel prices soar and you don't get any more for your money. Recommend the hotel for a great stay in Edinburgh, and the parking is handy even if they have put on a price on it more recently, but still affordable.
