This place was absolutely exceptional! The host provided incredibly detailed and helpful information, including the exact location and great tips for local trips, which made everything so easy. The house itself was spotless, and the kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed. I can’t recommend this place enough – I’d go back in a heartbeat. The highlight of our stay, without a doubt, were the horses and adorable foals. Truly unforgettable!

We’d been travelling for a few weeks by the time we got there and it was my favourite accommodation - comfiest bed, quiet room, fluffy towels, cooked brekky and coffee in the morning. Would recommend this place to anyone!

Wow! If you are looking for an escape to the countryside, with absolutely brilliant food, atmosphere, lovely staff and hosts, then you should look no further. We are yet to experience a more dog friendly venue. There are many hotels which tolerate dogs. This is a hotel where the team clearly love dogs and make sure that they are having as great a time as their pawrents. All the dogs were lovely and sociable and it was great for our relatively young pup to improve his social skills with both dogs and humans in a caring and relaxed environment. The hotel is situate on the River Taw. Day ticket fishing is available and highly recommended. Matt and Tom are on hand to provide advice on the best pools and flies and to share tales of fish netted - as well as the "tugs" and "long-range releases" that all anglers will know well. They have a brilliant knowledge of the local beats which host wild Brown Trout, Salmon and Seatrout. The beats are truly beautiful and exactly what you need to unwind and relax in the nature. I managed to net a respectable Brown Trout which was in mint condition - lovely healthy wild fish. I can't wait to return to fish the Taw in future. It was a wonderful trip and we have certainly found our Devon retreat. We will be sure to return soon.

I’ve stayed at The George many times and cannot fault any aspect of the hotel. The rooms are fabulous, clean, & superbly appointed. The staff are amazing, friendly, helpful, with customer service at the forefront. The breakfast is amazing, and I can’t think of a better place to stay. Brilliant service and fabulous value for money. I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough.

Everything contributed to a lovely experience and an unforgettable holiday. The family room we had was very clean and quiet. The hotel is situated in a lovely small town, with beautiful shops. However, please stay away from the Exmoor Fish And Chips place - they serve their friends, neighbours and loyal customers first, even though you're before them in the queue (we were number 74 and they had served up to number 88 before we finally asked why it was was taking them more than one hour to do 3 chips and one sausage). Our bathroom had two wash basins, which we loved. The hosts at the Lion Hotel were extremely welcoming, warm, and kind, and we felt very grateful for everything. The food at the Lion Hotel restaurant looked and tasted absolutely amazing. The service was excellent as well. We loved both the breakfast and the dinner. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience, Ian and Peter. It was lovely to see a successful family-run business and be able to contribute to that. We really hope to come back.
