A beautiful hotel set in wonderful surroundings. The staff were very friendly and helpful. As someone who suffers with severe food allergies the front of house staff and chef were very understanding and went above and beyond to make me feel at ease and the evening meal was delicious.

There is lots to do in and around Dumfries.

There is lots to do in and around Dumfries. The Museum with Observatory was interesting, although the Camera Obscura was closed due to rain. Due to its age, it doesn't operate in the rain. Had a lovely walk along the River Nith which runs through the centre. Lots of charity shops if you are interested in them. Several indoor play centres if you are travelling with children. Unfortunately some places had reduced opening hours / days in October, so check before you leave; we missed the Aviation Museum. Loved Dalscone Farm Fun.

Busy as didn't realise it was a holiday weekend in area. Parking was really tricky and when we found a space limited to 2 hours. Town centre full of coffee shops but no where to have a lunch that had spaces. Lots of nice unique shops and old fashioned shops with good bargins. Limited time but will be back.

We stayed 3 nights in the Woodland House Hotel in Dumfries, recommended by friends who live close by. Our friends were wonderful tour guides for us in the area, and actually saw many of the sites we saw for the first time as well. Don't miss Sweatheart Abby, the Tea room next to the Abby had nice tea and scones/lunch, and the Corn Mill just down the road. We also recommend Caerlavrock Castle, John Paul Jones (considered the Father of the US Navy) House and museum, Ruthwell Cross, The twelve apostles stone circle and the Lockerbie Memorial site and Gretna Green (never heard of the very historic and sought after venue known all over the world!) All very fine sites very near Dumfries. 2 full, fun packed days learning great Scotish history and spending wonderful time with friends. An enjoyable time in this beautiful area of Scotland! 💗

Lively friendly atmosphere we dined at the below restaurant it was a fantastic experience the steak was the best we had ever eaten staff were amazing 👏 would definitely recommend them 😀 the bars are so friendly and welcoming prices were cheaper than most will definitely return to Dumfries

As like most places we find them a bit run down though this...

As like most places we find them a bit run down though this is due to lack of funding and resources. Though people are friendly and mannerly. Plenty places to eat. Coasta was our cuppa stop off. Granary good for a reasonable priced meal.

The hotel was clean and quiet. We had a double room with ample storage, tea, coffee, water and biscuits. Parking is available and the breakfast was excellent. Full Scottish breakfast, cereal, fruit and toast. The hotel is a short walk from the town centre. Plenty of bars and restaurants. Mount Brae is a must for Peter Pan fans. A walk along the River Nith and a visit to the free museums was great. We took a drive to Southerness Beach which was a 30 minute drove on a beautiful coastal road. Ticked all our boxes for a relaxing weekend away.

Good location with plenty of parking. Hotel was clean, staff were friendly and the breakfast was excellent. There was tea, coffee, biscuits and a bottle of water in the room which is a nice touch after a long journey. Many more 'premium' hotels no longer provide this kind of perk. It's about 10 to 15 minutes walk into Dumfries town centre

Quiet, roomy hotel set in pleasant gardens. Near the centre of Dumfries without traffic and several public rooms to relax in. Bedroom was enormous with great facilities. Food excellent and the friendly staff had good suggestions of local beaches and nice places to visit.

Very nice hotel with an international outlook inside. Good bar and restaurant, we had a good dinner there. Breakfast is also served and of high standard buffet. Good shower and a quiet room. Directly near the beautiful campus of Dumfries
