The owner gave us a nice welcome, the room was clean and a good size for us, the breakfast was exceptional and the little pub of the property was very nice and friendly as well, it was perfect for a chill evening/ night after a long day. They even brought out some cheesecake late in the evening on request, because I was craving something sweet. Exceptional service!

Good location and free parking for our car. This is a charming old hotel with lots of details and history from the old days. We had the family room which is well equiped with fridge and mini freezer for our cooling blocks. Very nice and not common in hotels in the UK. Even snacks and beverages for free in the room. The two gentlemen that is running the hotel cares about the guest in a superior manner. We asked for help to find an electric shop since my oldest son had forgot the charger for his razor. The man (hotel owner?) came up with an USB charging cable that worked, and we got it for free. Excellent service and kindness. We will highly recommend this hotel. Greetings from a Norwegian family of mother, father and two boys in the teens.

The hosts were amazing, great contact with them before and throughout our stay. They're very kind and welcoming people. They go the extra mile for their guests, which really elevates the experience. We had access to guest pantry with some light breakfast options, the room was very clean and beautifully decorated. They also gave us tips for where to dine and what to see (which did not disappoint!).

We loved that this cozy cabin style accomodation is next to the restaurant. The room was very clean, modern and comfortable. The bathroom exceptional. The food in the restaurant was amazing and the breakfast was totally worth it. It is located away from Dover and if you are not driving you can get on the bus that takes you right to the trail for Dover castle. It was no hustle for us and the bus was every 15 min.

An Ancient Port of Call

Dover is famous for the white cliffs which would have been a striking sight to the Romans as they advanced on England. They decided to construct a port at this strategic spot and it has held an important role ever since. Ferries to Calais and Dunkirk cross the English Channel several times daily and some brave souls even manage to swim across.

A Roman lighthouse still stands atop a hill overlooking the port, but is easily missed as it was incorporated into Saxon St Mary de Castro Church as the bellower. It is found within the grounds of 13th-century Dover Castle, one of England’s largest castles, whose multi-level ramparts sit above tunnels where the World War II Dunkirk evacuation was planned.

Another Roman monument is the Painted House whose remains include some of the best-preserved Roman murals north of Italy. Even older is the Bronze Age boat displayed in Dover Museum.

The Dover Transport Museum showcases vintage vehicles, and the Blériot Memorial marks the spot where the first airplane to fly across the Channel first touched English soil. A path runs along the top of the nearby cliffs, while at their feet is a shingle beach.

The Dover Castle was lots of fun and was well organized for visitors of all ages. The war tunnels on the other hand were poorly organized and should be reorganized in order to help make them more interesting. The films on the walls explaining the historical events were difficult to understand due to the echo. The significance of the tunnels could be made more hands on for the younger generation to grasp. The Cliffs of Dover- easily a days experience and excellent hike and picnic opportunities along the way.

The white cliffs are absolutely breathtaking to view. Not too difficult to reach, around half hour walk from city centre. Food options around are cheap and good quality. Overall had some good time away from busy London.

We loved the romance of the place but we arrived on a very wet and cloudy day and some areas (like the walkway under the freeway) were flooded which hampered our walk from the station. The area at the back of the hotel was rather impacted by a busy freeway but the front of the hotel was charming. We only had two days in Dover and would have liked to have spent more time there. We ate at the hotel which was easy and very nice.

Reiseempfehlung: Dover castle, the beautiful white cliffs. Also recommended is a visit in the Fan bay deep shelter, and especially the Langdon stairs, a narrow way down to the beach on low tide. Tight shoes equired.

The Cliff walks are fabulous.

The Cliff walks are fabulous. Tea and cake at the lighthouse was a treat. We did not have time to visit the castle but hope to come back there sometime. Grocery shopping was very convenient and close to our accommodation. We travelled by train and the station is conveniently situated.

Recently stayed here for 3 nights whilst visiting relatives in Dover. A very friendly and welcoming hotel, the staff here (especially Nihad and Musa) really go the extra mile to ensure you have a pleasant stay. My room had a very comfy bed, nice towels and felt very clean and modern, it also had the benefit of a fridge and coffee making facilities. The introduction of safe bike storage would be a huge benefit. Would certainly use this hotel again.

Perfect location, quiet and clean hotel. Easy to park. John, the Concierge, is who really makes the difference among other hotels. He was so helpful and gave us the best advices to visit Dover. There were many places to visit, some of them we missed because we were just one day in Dover, so we'll come back at some point and for sure we'll choose again St Martins Guest House.

Hotel was wonderful, very clean and comfortable. Staff were helpful and couldn’t do enough to help with any enquiry and request. Room was lovely and the balcony was lovely to sit and relax and watch the world go by.Breakfast was amazing. So much variety and food to choose from. Would definitely come back here if we visited Dover again.

A nice basic hotel just outside Dover, it is a perfect stop over when getting an early ferry. The staff were a bit thin on the ground so some waiting occurred but they were friendly and happy to help. The food on offer at the Bella Italia restaurant is delicious and this is based inside the resturant itself.
