FAQs about hotels in Birmingham

Top-Class Shopping, Culture and Sport

The UK's 2nd largest city, Birmingham is one of its top cultural centres. Well-known for the M6 Spaghetti Junction interchange, it is a surprisingly green city with lots of open spaces.

Most city centre hotels in Birmingham are near New Street Station. To the east is the futuristic architecture of the new Bull Ring shopping centre, and just behind is Digbeth Coach Station. To the west is Victoria Square, home of the town hall and a German Christmas Market.

The Mailbox is one of the newest additions to the Birmingham shopping scene, and behind it is one of the canals converging on the Gas Street Basin. By one canal are the ICC (International Convention Centre) and the NIA (National Indoor Arena), both venues that host major events.

Just opposite is Brindleyplace, a canal-front complex of restaurants, bars and hotels near Broad Street – the main nightlife area. It is popular with students at nearby Birmingham University, whose clock tower is modelled on the one in Siena. Just south in Bournville is Cadbury World, and there are several hotels on Hagley Road to the north, which are available on Booking.com.

The city is also known for sports – Aston Villa and Birmingham City are the top football clubs, while Edgbaston Cricket Ground hosts international matches. Other Birmingham attractions include Hockley’s Jewellery Quarter and the NEC arena by Birmingham International Airport.

Once we knew the way to the city centre it was easy and only took around 8-10 mins walk. Plenty of taxis outside New St station. We went to the Alexandra Theatre to see a show which was only around 15-20 mins walk from the Holiday Inn Express. Bullring shopping centre has plenty of choice of a variety of shops and cafes. Visited the Luminate light show at the Botanical Gardens which was lovely. Ate at Bills which was really delicious. Everything is very close by so within half an hour walking you can get to lots of places.

I can't think of a single positive thing to say about the place. Clearly designed by several people with a grudge against humanity. It was like winning the 5th prize in a village fete = one night in Birmingham. Actually, there is far less to Birmingham than meets the eye. I'd sooner be boiled in my own urine than be forced to go back.

Going just before Christmas proved to be a perfect time to experience Birmingham. The purpose of the trip was to see the Stereophonics (brilliant!) which was an easy walk from our hotel, but there was so much more to see and do. During the day we took the unexpectedly beautiful canal paths, to explore the jewellery quarter, and experience a great range of bars and cafes. We also strolled around the pedestrianised centre of town, stopping to drink Weiss beer and gluhwein at the Christmas market. It was easy to get around and we even did a bit of shopping in the Bullring.

Very clean, ideally located just outside of the busy city centre and close to Cadbury world. Uber cost to city centre was between £10-£13. Room was updated with mod cons and was very nice. Great terrace at the rear and a small bar. Owner has recently taken over the hotel and has big plans ongoing there to modernise it. Would 100% look to stay again next time visiting Birmingham.

Excellent central location, close to train station. Once inside the door very welcoming and smart. Room had been well thought out with comfortable furnishings and the room was fairly spaciious. We didn't use any of the facilities. Would highly recommend for a short stay in Birmingham city centre. Thank you to B&B Hotel Birminghham!

Price! For a H.I.E. hotel in the heart of Birmingham city centre, the price offered was exceptional. However, had to pay big amount on parking too, which reduced the good effect of very good stay/breakfast price.
