Very pretty village even in bad weather.

Very pretty village even in bad weather. We ate at the Indian and the Woodyard - both excellent meals and highly recomended. We visited for the Christmas Market - the stalls were really expensive, though I suppose they always are. I would recommend going at another time when not so busy.

Tuesday, when we arrived, everything is closed in the evening. We couldn't find a restaurant to eat in, a lot of the pubs were closed early as it was late in the season, the ones open were full. Beautiful place though, loved it. It seemed a very safe place to wander about and everyone was very friendly. My daughter and I looked like the only ones without at least one dog. Try Bakewell pudding.

Bakewell itself for me is a very expensive, wealthy area for accommodation, food, car parking and souvenirs but for a walker, it is close to some marvellous walking paths. I would recommend it for a weekend or a few days break.Take your local map, camera and binoculars.

The Castle is in the centre of Bakewell so very convenient for exploring locally. Chatsworth House is only a few miles away and a great day out. As evening meals are served in the pub, guests can choose to eat in the welcoming atmosphere, but eating fish and chips on a seat by the river is just as romantic!
